Bottom line here is its up to the individual lender. Where they identify a customer as part of a potential tranch who could have been missold then they are required to contact them. However, there are some who are writing to everyone who ever took out a policy, for exactly the reasons Dunstonh stated.

So I keep hearing from people. Problem is not one of them is capable of backing it up with anything other than their own rhetoric.

My guess is that the real reason is they are two incompetent to differentiate between those they must write to and those they need not - at least within the timescale stipulated by the regulator.

I remember during the pension review I came across numerous cases where there was never an occupational scheme available and therefore review invitations should never have been sent.

I'm not sure what you expect them to back it up with? They are clearly not going to be able to produce high level strategic papers from the bank's board confirming their strategy? However, there are numerous people in this forum who work, or have worked, in the sector and who are aware of the banks' strategies (myself being one of them).
