Hi, I'm new here so hope I've posted this correctly...
We need a cast iron down pipe replacing with good old plastic and have had two firms round to quote for that, but at the same time have asked them to quote for replacing the whole shabang.
Their quotes are confusing me a little as one seems relatively fair at £2675 for the fascias, soffits and guttering, yet their quote for removal and replacement of one downpipe is £175! We live in a detached bungalow with no access problems, 2.5m of downpipe in Screw**x is £5.49, so £175 seems a major rip off.
The second quote is equally confusing as they have quoted £4450 + VAT for the whole lot  yet only £65 + VAT for the down pipe replacement.
As mentioned, we live in a 3 bed detached bungalow, average size, no access problems and we're in Widnes, which is somewhere between Liverpool and Manchester for those not familiar with the area.
I'm going to get more quotes but I am interested to know what people in the business or who have had similar jobs done in this area think of the disparity between the prices above?
Thanks for your time
