Car insurance.

Does anyone know of any insurance company that will offer a good discount to insure a second car.

Some years ago I had car insurance with company A and when I bought a second vehicle Company A wanted the full premium with no NCD for the second vehicle, but I went to Company B and they gave me 60% introductory discount for the second vehicle - but they are not doing that anymore.

Just do the normal compare the meerkats quotations, if they are a lot more than you are expecting, try a broker, or Admiral.

You can't use one no claims discount on a second car - you can only use it on one car.

We have had admiral multicar previously and currently have Aviva multicar - which was much cheaper than any other and we got cashback.

eSure do multicar, and mirror the no-claims off car A to car B

Whether this means that at renewal car B will have a full no-claims to tout elsewhere I don't know, I was told it would.....

It won't, in practice, even though I've been told the same thing. Truth is that call handlers don't fully understand mirroring and NCD - which doesn't help.

In my case I had a renewal letter clearly state '9+ years', which I assumed was correct, but the new insurance company only took 1+ year because it's mirrored. They didn't look at the letter - because NCD is handled electronically behind the scenes between insurers - and obviously that contains more information than the renewal letter.

Still got the insurance for under £150 - but even so...

    Grrr!

That means that I need to look for the letter from my old insurer with 4 years against my car B, for when eSure double the price next year.

I doubt that they will have recorded my 4 years from my old insurer, as they never asked for it, even if everything is electronical.....;)
