Car Accident - Driver Dispute

Wow. I hope your wife receives a hefty fine and points.
You got out, checked your car, decided there was no damage and drove off?! Without even looking at the other car? Classy!
Why are two witnesses saying that a male was driving if your wife was? There may be further implications if the police think someone else was driving and not your wife (which is likely if two witnesses say a bloke was driving).
Because the OP got out to check his car, not the OP's wife. Then the witnesses, some hours later, recall it and make the assumption that the person they saw checking was the driver, not her husband. Happens all the time, when people recall what seems 'obvious', not what actually happened. Unless the police suspect that the wife is 'doing a Vicky Pryce' and trying to take the points for her husband, I don't see it as an issue once the wife confirms herself as the driver at the time.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Just seems suspicious that they wouldn't have seen either the driver or the guy get out the wrong side of the car. And that is two people making both mistakes.
Add that to the fact the guy in the car has no license or insurance? Starts smelling of something to me. Just seems like an awful lot of coincidence to me.0 -
If you ask 2 people to watch the same incident and then write a statement about it, they will invariably write different accounts. Ask any policeperson and they will confirm that: people are often very poor at recalling such events with any accuracy.
If the OP's wife never left the vehicle, it would only be possible to prove she was driving if the witnesses were viewing from the front or offside, and could clearly see into the car. All they probably saw was the OP peering briefly at his 'minor scuff mark', and jumped to the conclusion later that he was driving. Add in possible dusk lighting, rainy weather, etc and that assumption becomes even more understandable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If the OP clipped the rear of the other vehicle then he would have seen the other car stop unless he deliberately chose to exit at a different junction. Maybe his wife looks like a fella too? Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
