Just saw this and thought what a good idea for when your plug breaks down.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I thought it was a good idea to get 2 extra sockets without adding to the loading on the circuit.
If the plug breaks down I just plug the phone/tablet into the computer.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea, but how long will it last before you get a new device that wants a higher charging current or a new fast charging protocol? (e.g. my phone charges much faster when plugged into something that supports Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging or Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0)Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Like others, I like the idea but how long will the usb ports actually last?
Because IME USB chargers do not last long; so will these mains sockets need replacing (say) every two years when the USB charger no longer works?0 -
Should be fine if you go for a reputable brand. I would definitely steer clear of any eBay ones; a dodgy charger's bad enough when it's plugged into the wall, let alone screwed in.0

where does the 5v come from then? , the power comes from the circuit , the only difference between it (usb skt) and a usb brick , is that on the socket the gubbins are out of sight0 -
Similar thing but from a reputable manufacturer:

shared 2.1A.
so a max of 1.05a per usb socket ,
"Apple gives you the 2.1 Amp 10 Watt charger so it won't take a day to charge your iPad due to the battery being much bigger. Most USB Hubs produce the .5 Amps even though they have an external power supply you plug into the wall"
so the above usb socket will only work on one iPhone , or 2 at half rate0 -
Personally I wouldn't.......
It's always on, which means you effectively have a small power supply permanently plugged in to your mains AND it's of an unknown quality (probably very cheaply made in China).
I've had cheap power supplies and some have been horrendous quality, they're poorly designed, with poorly made parts (transformers with extremely thin primary/secondary insulation for example).
To me this is very risky indeed.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If two iPhones are being charged overnight, does it matter that they're charged at half rate?
(I ask because I don't have an iPhone, and certainly not two).0
