Home Contents Insurance Policy

Hi,
I received a home contents insurance policy confirmation/statement/welcome letter from Lloyds Bank this morning, but I have a concern. There are three people this policy is meant to cover, but my name isn't mentioned. All it says is Mr X, Mrs X and others. The letter was also addressed to Mr P X and Mrs C X, even though my first name's initial is P (two Mr P X's) I'd have expected to see my name included on the address surely? Does this policy possibly mean zilch to me given my name isn't mentioned accurately?

Any clarification anyone can offer is much appreciated. I'm considering going into the bank this afternoon to see what they say.

Regards,
Paul.

Most Insurers systems are set up to cater for the standard market eg one Policyholder or a Policyholder & their Partner.

It could be the person you spoke to used a recogised work around with Lloyd's to add your name or possibly a non recognised work around to bodge it.

The answer lies with speaking to Lloyd's and asking them to confirm in writing that you're all covered

What relation are you all to each other?

Check the definition of 'Insured' to see if you are covered.

I'm a son (living with parents), I was the one who applied for the insurance and paid for it and we're all on the tenancy agreement. I'll see if I can find out from the T&C or documentation provided. I was going to head to the bank yesterday afternoon but heavy rain prevented that, so I'm heading there this morning and should find out then.

You probably don't need to be a joint policyholder.

Most policies cover the policyholders and their immediate family living with them.

As RS mentioned, check in the Policy Wording / Booklet under the "Meaning of Words" or "Definitions" which should have a word for "Insured" which will explain the Insurers definition of who is insured by the policy.

Lloyd's TSB use the definition "Family" and here is their definition

    "Family
Your spouse or partner and children (including
adopted and foster children) and any other
relatives all of whom normally live with you. "
