Ive always been a fan of Tosh TV's some of the stuff they have produced have been fantastic we have a 21" crt that is about 14 years old the thing just wont die.

To be honest, you really need to specify which models you are interested in, all Brands have good and not so good models in their line up's.

You are always going to get different answers from different people anyway.

Personally I would avoid Hitachi in your list, they once made fantastic TV's, but now they just seem to rebadge cheaper stuff.

I've never been a fan of Sony. I generally find Panasonic AV gear to be good value and reliable, but Samsung are building a good reputation for themselves as well. I've owned a few Toshiba bits and pieces which have been fine.

For LCD the best is Toshiba and for Plasma the best is Panasonic (for the average price range and not the very high-end one). As others mentioned it would also depend on the model but as a general rule the above applies well. Samsung are also making great LCDs at reasonable value and Pioneer are also excellent for Plasma.
