as has already been said the supermarket pumpkins are not realy culinary pumpkins
they are grown for size to make them good for lanterns
if you want an eating pumpkin then look for a nice small cinderella pumpkin which is much flatter than the carving pumpkins and it is sold as a culinary pumpkin
i would use butternut squash in a pumpkin recipe rather than he disgusting carving pumpkins0 -
Thanks for all the input. I've decided that it really would be a waste trying to do anything with it. I will cut up the flesh and freeze, and put a handful or two in future soup so that it doesn't go completely to waste.
Unfortunately I managed to burn the seeds when I toasted them in the oven. They too were inedible!
I think there are a couple still lurking in the pumpkin so I will plant them.
I was reading online and people are all agreeing that there is no point trying to cook these type of pumpkins. Please someone, kick me up the backside next year and remind me not to buy another just because it's cheap or I have a voucher.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
