Highly hilarious mse/non mse conversation with OH
OH: The hoover is broken
Me: Oh dear! What happened?
OH: The dust bin detaches from the base when I pick it up by the handle
Me: It's not really broken as such then... can't you just pick it up from the bottom?
OH: I think we need a new one
Me: Are you sure we can't just pick it up differently if it's still vacuuming ok?
OH: Well you're welcome to try and fix it!
Me: We could just pick it up differently...LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
Hi all,
Quite a few money saving bits today - though nothing very exciting:
*Paid 2 x 50ps into my sealed pot.
*The £280 from the Car Piggy had landed in bank account so paid it straight across to credit card (only really used for planned spending, so as to accrue vouchers)
*Registered new M&S Sparks card. Might as well give it a go.
*Used leftover tortilla wraps to make quesadillas for lunch, before they morphed into cardboard.
*Updated calendar & filofax & synchronised with mr f's work diary, so we can plan properly.
*Emailed family member to finalise catering arrangements for a festive family get together next month. We are splitting this up between us, which will definitely keep costs down.
*Updated grocery budget.
*Pulled home grown baby turnips & leeks.
*Went through my folder of vouchers/gift cards to check nothing is getting near to expiry date.
*Dough in bread machine for some rolls.
*Rubber chicken activities later, as will be making a potato-topped chicken & leek pie for dinner tonight & a chicken stew for the freezer.
*Do meal plans for next week - a bit early, but due to wet weather, we've changed various plans around this week & have decided to call in at Sainso's after a city centre trip tomorrow to save petrol & time.
*Write shopping list.
*Packed away a big bag of lovely recycled jars/lids from s-i-l.
*Knit more jumper later. Still not half way there yet, & I still have 2 more gifts to knit. Must do more knitting & less f*rting about on the internet tonight, that's for sure!
OK, must go & play with bread dough now.
Love to all,

Evening all

Thanks for starting us off CCL. Glad to hear that you had a better night's sleep
Clootiesmum, What IS a black out box?? I keep meaning to ask (apologies if this seems nosy :rotfl:)
Looked after baby GD today, and she was a bit of a handful, so not much done
But on the other hand, not much spent either
Used stewed gifted plums from freezer for my breakfast rather than bought fruit
Entertained baby for free (puddles featured prominently, plus she finds the puppy very entertaining, under strict supervision on both sides of course
)
Only spend was some small batteries for one of her toys, which is now working perfectly again
I didn't have any of that size in my stash.
HM meals - rest of the sausage and bean stew I made yesterday for supper
Only 2 Mins items today:
#10 & 11 - two packets of seeds that I won't use, that I posted today (or rather baby did) to a lady who was asking for stuff for a new allotment that the group of young adults with learning difficulties that she works with have just taken on. I used free postal survey stamps, so no cost to me to post them, the seeds themselves were free, and she was pleased to be offered them
Did a couple of surveys for onepoll and one for YouGov. Also postal survey tasks.
Checked FPL
And that is probably it. Must do better tomorrow. Off now to start a shopping list as teabags etc are getting low and OH won't cope without them
Hope everyone has a nice evening

Small update on the hoover - on inspection, the spring that clips the dust bin in has gone, however this clip creates the air tight seal so I think it won't work as well.
The plus side is that a new bin can be purchased for £30 as opposed to a whole new vacuum cleaner!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
Carrie - I can totally imagine having similar discussions about your hoover. I always try and get by with things rather than replace. Very funny

I just seem to be running out of time to post every day at the moment. Sorry. Am trying to check in on you all.
Yorkshire - I wouldn't see it as bad that your son is aware of your financial circumstances. He is old enough to understand that money doesn't grow on trees and sounds a really sensible boy. I do know what it's like wanting to give your children everything don't get me wrong. But don't beat yourself up either. Money doesn't grow on trees and it's great he knows that and isn't a spoilt brat who expects to have everything." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Yet another late post, long day at work and still have work I could do but I've been doing 'home' stuff instead, much better for the soul
today I have:
Paid money from customers straight to CC, updated spreadsheet, will need to go to bank at some point to pay some of the cash in but I can spend it if need be, instead of using debit card so it balances off IYSWiM
Meals from stores
Washing during on airer, although heating off as it's not too cold
Called mortgage provider, asked for a reprint of the letter stating why my payment has gone down, just want to make sure it's right before I allocate the difference elsewhere :rotfl:
Defrosted chicken bones and in slow cooker for stock, put in a couple of mandy potatoes, not sure if that will work but didn't want to throw them away
Text friend about meeting up on Friday
Think that's about all, hope everyone is ok

Back for a quick update folks.
- CCL - glad you're feeling rested & hope your Dad's OK
- Lego Mum - it's a wonderful feeling when people comment on weight loss (not had any for many moons though) - well done
- CLF - OH comments - glad someone else has those conversations too
- DawnW - Black Out Box - our previous house was a farm cottage with frequent power cuts - so the black out box contains all that we need in the event of a power cut. We have a wood burning stove so heat is not an issue but basic blackout box contains
- Wind up radio
- Couple of candles - although others are always placed strategically through the house
- Matches
- Torch of some description
- Batteries of some form
- Battery powered alarm (to ensure we're still up for work)
- Non-electric phone - this is essential
- Wee willie winkie candle holders (they must have a proper name but I don't know what it is) that you can walk round the house holding
These are the basics that we need but these allow us to find everything else that's needed - eg hot water bottles and gas camping stove etc
Everyone would have a different one but these are (or will be) all kept in a box in the living room to be pulled out when power is off.
Proactive MSE-ing- All meals from stores - done
- Start search for Dad's NI number - no idea how I'll find this - it does not seem to be on any of the paperwork I have but to query the lost pensions with the government website I need this info - need to investigate this
- DH called I*ea re mattress complaint to try to get this replaced - done
- Hunt for remaining stuff for Black Out Box. I seem to have misplaced the battery alarm clock and the wee willie winkie candle holders (these are great for moving around the house) so hunt is on for these - no idea - today's hunt came up with nothing.... but I will find the b*ggers
- Look at Christmas shelf and make some more room in it - then tally with Christmas list - will mean I don't have to buy some presents - Done - I don't need to buy Christmas cards for the next few years
- Clean out a last drawer in living room unit - done - woohoo. OK there are still shelves but they can wait (DVDs & CDs & stuff)
- Post on here once a day 10/28
- Get up at 6 am on work days 3/28- you can see I need more practice at being up and co-ordinated (I have counted this today as it wasn't a work day but I was still up sharpish)
- Watch more of series 4 of "The Walking Dead" once log man has been - he's been - we watched
- Watch HFW waste programme from the other day. We didn't get it here in Scotland but I taped it on one of the English BBC channels - shocking - bl00dy shocking
- Check banks - done - still skint
- Clean out another kitchen cupboard to up the Mins game total - swoop & swipe rather than a clear out
- Cleaned drains in en-suite - there was a smell - hopefully I've sorted it - done - hopefully it works
No Mins game played yesterday - but I can see a scavenge around he house coming on shortly- 4 pairs of shoes
- 1 toast rack
- 2 mugs
By the way - log man delivered down the drive - so I get to move the logs on Saturday - aren't I the lucky one
