O/S Daily Wednesday 4th November 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Now getting light, damp and fog seems to have returned, yesterday afternoon it went really dark and nasty and then stayed that way until it got dark.
Dinner last night was pork chops, roasties, carrots, broc, gravy and LO Yorkshires, ice cream or treats from the tins for dessert. Tonight hairdresser is booked so it’ll be a quick fish, chips, beans for the menfolk and fish, jacket potato and veg for me.
Work yesterday wasn’t too busy but I had to travel from one office to another straight after my lunch for a training session on new machines we’re going to be using from Xmas/New Year. It wasn’t that difficult just loads of “procedures” to remember and we’re not getting exactly the same machine as the one we’re being trained on, ours is supposed to be the latest version, with much more capability – ie, more technical things to go wrong with it! I’m only working until lunchtime then I’m on days off, we’re going away – I don’t really want to go, but our friend phoned a few weeks back and asked if we wanted to join them for the weekend at a site not far from here, so no great distance to travel but could just do without the expense at the moment. Also we have the open day at college on Sat morning – this has been booked for ages, so we’re having to take caravan in the day on Friday (friend is taking ours for us but I have to go with him, then come home before going back with DH and DS2 in the evening). Then we need to go to come back Sat morning to go to the College open day, then go back Sat afternoon, then stay there Sat night and then be back home early Sunday as caravan engineer now has the parts to do a little job on the caravan that’s been needed since August – don’t really see the point in going to be honest when we’ve got so much running around to do.
I’ll get the jobs done that are needed when I get home later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all, thank you for the thread nmlc. I have been up for a couple of hours and just pootling. Writing reports at home for part of the day but also going to see someone later, bit of a disjointed day. It is still dark here, not cold though, yesterday evening was cold and I ended up putting the heating on for a while but that could have been tiredness at the end of a long day. Do others feel colder if they are tired or am I just odd?
Refilled my treat tin with some small treats from A*Di which was on my way home yesterday, resulting in instant pounceathon but did manage to enforce the one thing rule. Will start work soon.
Have a good day everyone
Wrong! It is not dark, just grey an full of gloomy damp, soggy and miserable now.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Wet here but not particularly cold, ancientofdays I feel colder if I'm tired too.
Washing on the airer, I seem to have caught up now after washing all DDs bedding (including the summer quilt). DW emptied, it isn't on as much now DD has moved out.
PL of feta cheese salad made, salmon for tea. I have the optician at 4, I feel new reading and distance glasses coming on! The carpet measurer came yesterday and I went down and ordered the stair carpet, a couple of weeks to wait for that as I need a Saturday fitting - at least they don't charge extra (it was free fitting too).
I need to go into work then leave almost straight away for a training course then back to work - they don't make it easy do they?
HH - your worry load gets worse, hope they all see sense soon.
I was thinking of you yesterday Gers, the carpet chap said it was a lovely sunny day in Oban, it was foggy here all day!
tru - I think your wellies must have made off with my rain jacket, can't find it anywhere!
dumpling - Well done to you, hope hubby enjoys his steak, Happy Birthday to him.
csarina - Hope DH feels better soon.
Right, I'm off for a bath, can't use the shower as the painter is coming to fix the ceiling - don't think it was completely dry after a morning shower and it bubbled in places. Take care. XX0 -

Yes I do ! in fact I was very cold last night so had our heating on, but I did wonder if I was just tired :rotfl:
Morning all,
Another gloomy day atm but not too cold, I was in bed by 9 last night and slept right through till this morning, I am doing this most nights atm my work is so tiring I don't know if I can keep it up long term.
Off to work today and mums for dinner tonight which is such a treat for us after a long ay, have started to order a couple of gifts every ay for xmas so I have started at least.
Washing to do tonight and a sweep through.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning one and all. Thanks for kicking off NMLC. Your weekend ahead has me dizzy. Well, what a surprise, we have fog yet again!
I had another fitful night, tossing and turning, but managed to stay in bed till 6.30. That's a lie in for me these days! How I long for a good night's sleep.
All sorts of things to do today. I have a hair appointment at 1.00 so will pop down earlier and get one or two bits from town first. Then afterwards onwards to Aldi for a few more bits. Whilst in the vicinity I want to pop into the railway station re our journey to Liverpool on Sunday. Work has been going on between here and Leeds every weekend for ages. This has resulted in lines being closed and bus connections inbetween stations. That's bad enough but we've been told the whole line is now closed at weekends! Aaaargh we don't need that! So I want to check just what is happening and be prepared for it by maybe leaving on an earlier train.
We then have the 3 DGDs for tea, arriving in stages, after ballet & tap for the middle one and Rainbows for the youngest. Need to think what I can rustle up quickly as I am out tonight on my monthly carvery and wine meet up with my lady friends. I have asked DD to stay on and get the youngest to bed, though Mr TA insists he would be ok. He soon gets tired though if he does too much.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS)))))) to those wanting/needing them. Especially HESTER, poor you, you have enough on with the BIL's from Hell without FIL kicking off too. Take care all xxxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone, strength to all with much to face and get well wishes to poorly folk.
Dark and drizzly here when we took the girls out, now laying on their beds drying off. My big girl Rosie wasn't sick in the end, have checked her mouth for anything nasty that could have caused the drooling but can't see anything, if happens again will pop down the vets for a check-up, she is 11 so reasonably old for a Lab but is generally a healthy dog.
Enjoyed being out with my DM for the afternoon, she found the suitcase she wanted and I also managed to pick up a runner for my upstairs landing which has cosied it up.
Today am going to sort through a lot of our books and put the unwanted ones to one side for the CS. Then am meeting an ex work colleague with her twin boys for lunch, haven't seen her for several months so loads of catching up to do, looking forward to it.
Wishing everyone a good day x0 -
Morning everyone.
Outside looks better than yesterday Sorry Camelot, it was mostly grey and damp here yesterday, not as lucky as Oban. The forecast is not good for the rest of the week either.
I was cold yesterday too so went to bed early and read / watched TV there. I'd been out for a constitutional so was a tad tired!
Today is a two hour teaching day though it seems to take up much longer. Going to collect the laptops etc, driving 26 miles to the venue, opening up, setting up tables and chairs and laptops - two hours teaching - and then the reverse. I leave here at 11.30am and get home at 4.30pm. Not sure it's worth it financially, lucky I'm not that motivated by money.
I need to do online banking, moving money around mostly, but will have to leave it now until Thursday. I'm also watching Flybe as they have yet to release flights after March next year. The island flights sell out really quickly so need to be on the ball.
Breakfast of porridge, lunch will be missed so it's shepherds pie for evening meal. Still dry, though the 'danger zone' is always weekends.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Wednesday.0 -
Good Morning everyone grey and damp here today but not cold and really smelled of Autumn when I emptied the compost caddy this morning. Most leaves are down now and Cookie loves to crunch through the piles on the paths. I'm having an 'indoors' day and doing all the jobs that need doing after being away for the best part of last week, have just scrubbed down the back of worktop tiles and cooker hood, I don't know how he gets them so splattered. Up to date with the washing and today have a basket of ironing to tackle, I like ironing (I know!) sad though it sounds, I find it a very relaxing thing to do. Supper tonight will be a treat as I found a couple of YS sirloin steaks yesterday when I was in town, not something we have often but nice when we do.
Hugs to all of us who have problems, feel poorly, are worried or are just plain fed up, this dismal grey weather does nothing to lighten your mood does it? I don't mind Autumn but I really don't like drizzly dull days they sap my energy like nothing else does.
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning :hello:
Halti headcollar - The Best Thing EverScampi seemed relaxed with it on yesterday, so we ventured out. I'd planned on a five minute walk to start with, gradually building up to our usual route over a couple of weeks. We ended up staying out for half an hour. He pulled very slighty towards a couple of people but seemed to realise what would happen if he pulled harder, and stopped himself
He listened to every single word I said. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am :j

Scampi woke me up, barking for a wee at 3am. I couldn't get back to sleep so I came back down to make a cuppa. I woke up on the sofa, cold and in a funny postion, at 7.30am - that's really late for me, lol – and tried to stand up but all my muscles were stiff. I staggered to the kitchen for a cup of tea, feeling like a little old lady
I'll be meal planning this morning, the cupboards and freezers are full so there's plenty to choose from. I want to make it all last as long as possible so will probably re-write the list a few times, lol.

Morning (((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
We have ?mist again this morning, it never really cleared yesterday. OH is progressing, we are going to walk round the corner to the Baptist Church they have a coffee morning first Wednesday of the month. I will have a word with the minster about OH, see if he knows anyone who would sit with him when I am out. A befriender would be good for him. Take some of the burden off me.
Niece came yesterday for lunch; we spent quite a while talking about her Mum who died 16 years ago, she was 3 months younger than me.
I washed the towels overnight, will have to put them on the airer, no way are they going to dry outside.0
