We're both the same - we're lucky enough that if there is something either of us wants and its the right price we can just buy it. So for the last couple of years we've agreed not to buy each other gifts at Christmas (we also don't do birthday presents either).

Family still ask for a Christmas list though (which is good because it means people get what they want/need rather than random crap) so when it gets to September time we'll start asking ourselves if its something we need now or if it can wait until Christmas - if so, it goes on the list.

I think something to do is better than something to have. Whether that's an experience day, a gig, a festival, holiday or even a trip to a theme park.

Or something to eat/drink that's nice and posh!

I totally agree. Me and my OH don't really need anything so we prefer to do something together and make memories rather than wasting money on stuff we don't want or need.

We usually buy a token gift for each other for Christmas and birthdays like many on here we have reached the stage where we buy stuff we want when we want it and we don't want unnecessary clutter. We get experience or edible gifts from the family although we do say don't bother they still like to come up with something.

  • I'm absolutely with you on the unnecessary clutter. Junk gifts were ok when we were children but the house must be organized or I'll be an OCD mess. I decided to buy him his new tool for wood carving that he has always wanted. Also, got him this wallet I saw through facebook and google.

    Foredom professional wood carving kit

    Pill Pocket Wallet

He should be satisfied with these two gifts. He's always out there carving and making more things for us to put away in storage and he does always need his pills on him. If he behaves maybe I'll get him a third.
