"Free" boiler replacement

Options
I was round at my parents last night and they mentioned that they'd signed up for a new boiler. They'd answered an advert on the web, and had a call back from a chap who came around to visit. The document I saw was a credit agreement that had been signed for a value of £10,000 over ten years. With the interest, it comes to more than £15,000.

The story that they'd been given is that this is some kind of eco friendly air heat pump which qualifies for a tariff which can be reclaimed from the government. Some kind of "account" will be setup to receive the tariff which will cover all the costs of the credit agreement. Sorry about the vague description, I'm getting all this second hand.

Anyway, I'm a bit cynical about deals that sound like they're too good to be true, although I am aware that there are subsidies available ( they're both over 70 ). And that's a hefty price tag for a new boiler.

Has anyone heard of such a scheme / care to comment. The crowd in question are Superseal Ltd, based in Glasgow. You can find them easily on google ( new user, so I cannot post a link ).

Thanks in advance

Gordon

What is wrong with their current boiler?
over 73 but not over the hill.
  • Not really sure. There's a sporadic problem with it and I think that they were hoping that this deal would sort it out for them.

Sorted all right. They are paying £125 a month for 10 years and in 10 years the boiler and the heat pump will be due for replacement.

The RHI payments are 7.42p for 7 years.

You'd need to know a lot more numbers to see if they could get their money back in the time frame.

First one. What's the estimated heat load of the property as specified on the property's EPC?

Do they have a figure for the SPF?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
