  • Been over a month since I last updated (oops!!) but nothing much has changed. Argos is paid so that money is now going towards Very.

I found out I can upgrade my phone from 28th Dec, so going to see if there's any good deals on to hopefully get the price of that down as my bill for this month was £62 and I have no idea why. I called and they said I'd made calls to premium numbers, I haven't so they're looking in to that.

Also found a group on facebook that has been quite interesting to read. So this morning I have sent 2 separate letters and supporting documents to my bank. 1 is asking for charges paid back to me and the other is to get my account fee for the past however many years paid back. So all in all, if all goes well, I should have around £1000 from them. I can live in hope. I don't have anything to lose really.

As far as paying for my account goes, I'm still paying my £17+ o/d usage fee and interest but only because I've been pretty unwell and unable to leave the house. So I will deal with that one when I am able.

I'll be so glad to see the back of 2015. I'm not one of those 'new year, new me' kind of people, but it'll be really lovely to feel like I've got a clean slate. I will be debt free by the end of 2016, I will be 5 stone lighter (maybe even 6 if i'm lucky), and I will have at least £100 in savings.

I'm feeling really positive today which makes a change from the way i had been feeling so i'm enjoying it. After new year I'm going to sell things on various selling sites, now is just not the right time considering Christmas is 4 days away and I can't be bothered with buyers moaning that they wont get what they want by Christmas. I'm not convinced I have a whole lot to sell, but surely SOMEONE will want to buy the random crap I have lying around. One man's trash is another man's treasure, as they say.

I do currently have £290 in my savings account, but that wont be staying there too long I don't think. I have my car's MOT to pay in January and I have a feeling it'll need a bit of work done, but I'm sure my mum will help me with that one.

I'm working for a few hours tomorrow but I think that's all I'm working till January, so I'm going to use the next week to have a clear out, decide what I'm going to sell, create a folder to document my money making/saving endeavours and to keep track of whatever mse challenges i'm taking part in for 2016.

Hope you're all doing well :)

This is absolutely the right attitude, you have nothing to lose so give it a go. I'll have my fingers crossed for you, £1k would come in very handy, right?

As far as paying for my account goes, I'm still paying my £17+ o/d usage fee and interest but only because I've been pretty unwell and unable to leave the house. So I will deal with that one when I am able. One thing at a time, you're making fantastic progress already. :)

Yes it'll sell, at the right price, people will buy anything. Again, you have nothing to lose (except debt). ;)

A massive well done to you on all of the above. You're doing it really well. And merry christmas when it comes. :D

If you have a straight iPhone 5, no letter after, and your lock button at the top doesn't work then they are on recall. Take it into your nearest Apple store and they will fix it and add in a new battery for free. I have the same issue (my button has gone completely now) and looked it up online. I went into Apple on Sunday and they confirmed they'll take it away and give out a replacement while it's away. Then once it's returned I can either ignore their message and keep the replacement, or go back and get my phone back with a new battery and working sleep button.

BUT - they wipe your phone completely so take off everything you need.

Here's their website with the info. It states that only some are eligible, but in Apple they told me all iPhone 5's with this issue are eligible.

  • Thank you Ani! Also gonna try claim back interest from payday loans I had in the past. I'm on a roll right now lol. Not holding out much hope for getting my bank charges back or the interest from the payday loans but I'm not going to sit back and not try when there's a chance I could get something back. I'd much rather try and get told no than not try :)

Thanks MuffinTops, I checked my serial number and sadly my phone doesn't qualify :( Might pop into the apple shop and see what they say anyway. My phone is a few years old now so maybe it's been dropped one too many times.

Merry Christmas when it comes!! :D

Harleqinn,I have just read through your diary, and you are sounding really positive.Look at the change in tone now compared to when you started this diary 6 weeks ago :j.

Have you tried Pinecone surveys? They are not always open for new participants, though with a quick Google I found this page, which seems to include a current link for new panelists to join:
    http://mysurvey123.com/pinecone-research/

The page also seems to have links to lots of different survey groups,so might be worth checking a few out.As you can seee in my signature,I have earned about £180 with Pinecone, has taken about 18 months. At the moment I seem to be getting about 3-4 surveys a month, paying £3 each, and earlier this year I earnt £25 for participating in an online chat-survey lasting 1.5 hours. You are paid within 1-2 days, either into Paypal,or you can choose from hundreds of different "things"-vouchers,gifts,electronics,home and garden stuff, gift cards, video games, etc.

Good luck, and I am going to be cheering you on from the sidelines:

Plenty of cheap phones around, we went with "3" PAYG 123. and don't use much, we get a bundle when the need for more data/calls/text happens.
2 months worth(£80) will get you a phone and enough credit to keep you going( Just stay away from Apple).

Sims are free so get one ready.

Your car is a major money drain £240pm before you maintain it, any way to review that?

£10 for is probably too low for maintenance looks like you are doing 10k-15k miles a year with £150pm on fuel

Also you have missed of the OD and the bank fees from the SOA.
Also the holiday that is booked, will need some spending money for that
  • Thanks Saver-Upper :) I know, i feel a lot more positive and in control. It's a great feeling.

Yeah I signed up to Pinecone months ago and only had one survey out of it which is disappointing! But I'm a part of various other survey sites and close to £200 payout altogether so hopefully I get those not too long after the new year :)

Thank you for the support you wonderful human!

getmore4less EE have offered me an iphone 6 plus unlimited calls, texts + 4gb internet for £23 so I might just go with that its half the price of what I'm paying now.

Can't do much about my car other than get one that's cheaper to run and I can't afford to do that right now! It's £200 and something tax for the year and insurance isn't the cheapest because I'm still classes as a young driver. I need it for work, otherwise I would just sell it and use public transport! I've no idea how to lower the cost of it at all as much as I'd like to!

I do do around 10k miles a year but my mum is nice enough to pay for the maintence of my car if it costs more than the £120 I put by, but luckily it's been a great car and hasn't cost much at all in the years I've had it :)

Yeah I realised that the other day when I was looking at it!! Silly me, i always forget about bank fees though and the fact I have an overdraft since I live in my overdraft.

    Merry Christmas

  • It might be Christmas, but it's still a working day for me. But since it is Christmas, it's incredibly quiet (I've sat at my desk for 2 hours singing along to the radio) so I've made a meal plan for the whole of January. Every single meal and snack and it's all Slimming World friendly. So I'm going to try and keep the food bill under budget. It shouldn't be too hard considering there's a lot of meat in the freezer and that's the most expensive part of my food shop.

I've also taken more shifts at work in January since I don't start back university until February. My February wage will be almost double what it usually is so I'm very pleased with that (I'm paid a month in arrears).

It is becoming clear that some Christmas presents I bought for certain family members will be finding themselves on ebay in the new year as they are ignoring every single text and phonecall from my mum and I. It's probably a bit mean to put them on ebay, but I'm not keeping things that are going to sit in a cupboard.

2016 will be a year where my mum and I will declutter like we've never decluttered before and we're starting tomorrow. There's so much junk so they will be going on selling sites or the skip :)

Received a cheque from a credit card I'd already paid off for £23.87 as i'd over paid so I'm pleased with that one!

I'm very close to the payout for a few survey sites so I'm checking them several times daily to make sure I don't miss any.
