  • So it's educational for my daughters school to go away on a residential but if I do it it's seen as destroying her education.
    How does that work

Because when you take your child out of the class, teaching goes on in her absence. Either your child misses out on that work or you expect the teacher to spend time doing catch-up in later weeks.

When the whole class are taken away, school work will be based around the trip, before and after. No-one is missing out on curriculum targets.

    I don't think I've ever known a class taken abroad for a wedding? 🤔

Or a parent taking a whole class on an off site visit? 🤔
  • the article refers to attendance but ignores the final part of S7 that refers to or otherwise.

If a parent takes a child out of school, on holiday, nut educates them at the same time is that contrary to the law?
  • new to this but find some views strange
  • Hi,

I have requested via the school to take my kids out of school for 1 day before the summer holiday. It has been declined and I have been told we will get fined. Is the fine £60 per parent even if its just one day?

No the fine is typically 1 weeks wages, courts fine people; not councils

The FPN is a 'Fixed Penalty Notice' - note the word 'Fixed'

The "fine" will be £60 per parent and per child regardless of the duration. It will double though if not paid quickly.

A fine for one day would be unusual unless your child already has an attendance problem but it is for the school to decide on their criteria for issuing FPNs.

So if your kid misses a few weeks of school they're going to badly fail at their exams and the rest of their lives? I really doubt it. At worst they'll miss a few things about the Romans or how to work out the circumference of a circle. Come on, this stuff can be caught up on easily. Plus parents should ultimately be responsible for their own childrens' education, if they want them out of school then so be it, their responsibility.
