Dear Public
In my opinion the best boiler would have to have power rating of at least 37KW or more for typical family home 2 adults and 2 children.
A lot of plumbers will push for a 28KW has a larger margin for profit for them
When you open your taps with a good flow rate the 28KW boiler will take a good 5 minutes to reach the required temperature. You end up wasting a considerable amount of water (weather metered or not still a waste)
If one person is using the gas boiler to shower other family members can use hot or warm water in the rest of the house. This only works with a more powerful boiler. Boiler ran shower cheaper than electric shower.
Boilers work diferently to cars they will only use more energy when you need it.
Cheap boiler brands work out expensive when they break down. The parts are either not obtainable or they are expensive compared to a well known brand. You want a a boiler that is reliable and can be easily fixed with part available locally.
I would also recommend you install dual filter for your boiler. The filter will filter out metalic and non metalic debris.
Ask the plumber for references, their gas safe registeration number and registered company name (applies to private Limited companies and public Limited companies) (Do a google search for negative reviews)
Finally remember to get your bolier service every year. The filter and the boiler. The boiler will perform better.

Mmm.
Firstly all the major manufacturers suggest that a conventional boiler rather than a Combi is better if you have two or more bathrooms. e.g.Baxi
If you have more than one bathroom, a conventional system boiler might be a better option for you.
Worcester
Ideal where there are two or more bathrooms
Secondly it is not good practice with condensing boilers to have oversize boilers. To blandly say that 'at least 37kW is required' for a combi is incorrect. Why do all authorities and manufacturers suggest that an assessment of boiler size is required?

Lastly where do you get the information that 'a 28KW has a larger margin for profit for them(plumbers)?0 -
For most people, dont buy a combi,,simples..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

That all depends on what you mean by a "good flow rate". I lived for years in a flat that had a 23kW boiler, later replaced by a 24kW one.
If definitely did not take 5 minutes to reach a decent temperature.
Some people just won't need a massively over-sized boiler, and won't want to pay extra just to get one.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Hmm this post reminds me, I need to go to the COBBLERS!0
