Finding name of Finance Company (Vauxhall)

I dismissed the idea that I was owed anything, the only one I could have a claim against really is a finance company used by vauxhall in the mid/late 90's. I know I paid a lot and was pretty young and silly at the time, I've contacted Vauxhall and I've contacted my bank, Barclays, to ask who the company was, neither were helpful. Is there anywhere else I could find out or a list of finance companies somewhere that may jog my memory?

It is the car dealer that has liability for the sale. Not your bank or the finance company (unless the dealer had an exclusive relationship with the finance company and was in effect an agent of the finance company).

Car dealers did not become regulated until January 2005. So, they can reject pre 2005 complaints as being pre-regulation.

Vauxhall have/had their own finance company - GMAC.
Was this a new car in which case there's a good chance GMAC will be the finance company.
If it was a used car the dealer could have used virtually any motor finance company in the UK
Even if you find who the finance company was, after nearly 20 years they may not have any records.
In addition for the reasons Dunstonh points out already you are pretty much wasting your time with this one anyway.
