    sigh

"the main reason we want a garage built is ... to provide storage for our bungalow "

That must be a very small bungalow to fit in a garage.

    It's a joke.

    Never mind.

Oh I see, very good, I completely missed the point of what you said but in all seriousness our bungalow is quite small, just a two bed with one living room, kitchen and bathroom and no cupboard space except for a built in wardrobe, so a serious shortage of storage space.

You'll probably find it's a lot cheaper to buy a precast garrage than build one yourself. My garage is 20'x25' with a pitched roof and when we were getting it built the cost was just like Pinnoccios nose, it just kept growing and growing.

Actually someone else suggested either doing that or buying one of these metal ones with a pitched roof, you can get them in green apparently so they don't stand out too much. All things to consider when you are watching the costs like we are. Thanks.

This is not furniture we don't want, we are going to Spain and renting out our bungalow to our granddaughter so want to hold on to the furniture in case things don't work out for either of us.

Depends on the cost of the garage of course, but we have just finished paying for our £2000 3 piece suite and we have much more furniture that would be costly to replace. Add to that the value added to the property by building a garage - 10-15% if it is later converted to an extra room of the house and it is worth approx. £15,000 to the value of the house, plus it makes the property more saleable as believe it or not a lot of people buy bungalows with a garage than without given the choice probably because of the lack of storage space in bungalows.

I would say probably around the £300/sqm mark, back of a fag packet calculation though.
Is the old man any good at DIY or still able?
Have you thought about a log cabin style building?

Actually he always helps out and in any event has to move the 8ft x 6ft shed that is where the garage has to go. We have been looking at prefabricated ones if it works out too expensive for brick as they have some good ones now, you can even get them with brick fascia to match your property for about £4,500.

Don't get a metal one. They are not particularly secure and they sweat, so will likely ruin your furniture.
