Graduate jobs?

I thought he said he'd worked through uni? You may be approaching this from a female perspective, and negatively impacting his chances. He's got work experience; you need to see how that experience can be described as beneficial to that role.He is unemployed now. Long story. He had to give up student job. Long hours. Going nowhere. Needed time to focus on job hunting.
Have used prospects website but I'll remind him again. Many graduate schemes seem to be asking for work experience.
Your boy needs some direction; which might be helped by going to see the university job service.
After graduating, I knew exactly what job I wanted to do, and it still took me 3 months of job hunting to get what I wanted. God knows what I'd be doing now if I had no focus when I was looking for work.
I presume he's written a CV?0 -
He finished uni in July and yes he's written a cv. Of course.0

How am I negatively impacting his chances by asking a question on here. Perhaps we need to go back to the question. We are not stupid.0

I'm not saying that writing on this forum will impact anything - but the way men and women look for jobs is different, and the way they interpret job requirements is different. Men will often go for jobs when they don't match all requirements more often than women - it's part of the reason for gender pay-gaps. You are more likely to dismiss job requirements than your son.How am I negatively impacting his chances by asking a question on here. Perhaps we need to go back to the question. We are not stupid.
I guess the 'generalism' of his degree doesn't help him focus either, and he'll be just looking for generic 'graduate programmes' like this? http://www.prospects.ac.uk/graduate_job_search_details/graduate_scheme/business_consultancy_graduate_development_programme_2016/atkins/1682616?t=srs&criteria.keyWord=writing&criteria.pageSize=20&sortBy=rl&display=full&criteria.typeOfWork=17181&jobId=1682616&p=2
Is he prepared to move to work?0 -
He has rent to pay and is tied into contract until July.0

He could maybe try and get some unpaid work experience while he is looking; employers like to see some evidence of this and a lot of Uni courses include this nowadays, so to have none will put him at a disadvantage.
Choose something he would ideally like to do and ask companies if he can shadow someone for a few weeks, or get a little experience. This will look good on his CV, hopefuly be useful experience and may help him decide more firmly what he'd like to do.0 -
Yes he is trying to do this but he has bills to pay. In process of signing on so when this is sorted0

Does it have to be a graduate job ?
Reason I ask is there are thousands of xmas jobs available out there, i know its a temporary thing but would give him money and something to put on the cv and he can still look for a graduate job. Could take a while to get an interview for a graduate job, was just a thought.
Or there's various graduate programs, 1 that springs to mind is Enterprise rental service.0 -
Be kind. Don't assume he's not. He is trying hard. I'm just trying to help.
I'm sure you mean well and I don't mean to be unkind but are you actually saying he gave up his student job after he'd finished his courseso that he could "concentrate on his job hunting"? If that's the case, does he realise that he may be sanctioned from claiming JSA for up to 6 months?
Apologies if I've misunderstood what you're saying.:)0
