O/S Daily Tuesday 3rd November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, and seems to be drying up – fog seems to have lifted – was foggy nearly all day yesterday, was very dark, dreich and nasty.

Dinner last night was chicken slices, new potatoes, veg and gravy for the menfolk. I had the last slice of the med veg tart, some salad and new potatoes. I remembered to get the pork chops out to defrost, so tonight we’re having pork chops, mash, veg and gravy – I’ll serve some LO’s with it from Sundays’ roast.

Work yesterday started off slow and then was manic and was like that for most of the day until approx. 3pm when we managed to catch up with ourselves. A customer came in who wasn’t happy she’d been sent a bill for some money she owed, so decided to protest by paying the money all in 1ps and 2ps, she stated to me that she “was making a point”. It didn’t really have the desired effect because none of us particularly reacted – and my colleague who took the money had quite a queue of customers waiting by this point so she just stated to those waiting that she was sorry for keeping them waiting but she had to count all this money. There’s so much awful stuff going on in the world at the moment it sometimes beggars belief. She finished up leaving very red faced as she had held up everyone else and then had to walk past them all to get to the exit – she made herself look really silly and petty. If she’d just come in rationally and asked for someone to explain why – she would have got a simple explanation and then would have understood the situation, but she came in being all loud and aggressive and it didn’t work. I’m working at the other office today and from there going to another office for some training on our new machines that we’re getting in the New Year. Had another customer yesterday who was a young guy who has really been in a bad place and I assisted to get the ball rolling with trying to find him some accommodation as he presented himself as homeless. I managed to get him an interview with the homeless shelter yesterday afternoon and he didn’t come back from that so I’m hopeful that it was successful and he’s been accommodated – he needs the support of that sort of setting he has a whole world of issues that come from his childhood – so I’m hoping I’ve played a small part on him going in the right direction. I hoping that if he comes in again it’ll be positive news.

Keep safe and well x

  • Thank you for the thread nm. Had a heavy day at work yesterday and no energy left after that. Am not sleeping much.
Managed to remember my leftovers lunch for work yesterday, a miracle !
Must get ready and go and face the grindstone today, hope all are well
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning one and all. I see the fog is still with us. It lifted for a while yesterday and then came back again just after I pegged a bit of washing out!

Today should see the end of the marathon caravan shut down!! Our stuff bagged and labelled and DD bringing her mountain of duvets, towels, bed linen etc after the school run. Then it's all going up into the loft till the spring.

Other than that, nothing much else is planned. A quick dust and vac downstairs is needed. If I can be ar*ed there are mountains of leaves in the front garden that need gathering up. Every day I look at them and think tomorrow I'll tackle them!

LW Harriet is so sweet, crying out for a cuddle! ELONA I hope the interested buyers can be talked into upping their offer.

Have a good day all (((HUGS)))) to those in need and take care if out and about in fog. xx

    Morning All

LW - Harriet looks so sweet, I suppose when you get to 14 food is a big part of your life!
HH - How are things today?

There is a little fog this morning but not too bad at the moment, yesterday was damp all day with that kind of drizzle that gets you very wet.

I have the carpet chap coming later this afternoon to measure up so must make sure I finish work in time. The builders came yesterday to put the radiators back on in the hall and on the landing, they are coming back first thing to check for leaks so better be washed and dressed for then!

Hope everyone is well, dumpling did you manage to go out yesterday? Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Still grey outside. I haven't looked so don't know if it's just low cloud or fog. Yesterday was grey all day, drizzly rain and low cloud but fairly mild.

I only went out for my laser appointment and then into the chemist for more vit D tablets. In the absence of sunshine I need topped up.

Today I think I want to read a lot. There's a little housework to be done but I don't feel too inclined. I'm expecting a couple of deliveries so will stay close to the living room. After breakfast I've got macaroni cheese for later which I'm really looking forward to it.

Right now being under my duvet is so nice and cosy though the day is beckoning. I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

I love reading Gers I've had four books waiting for me on the shelf for a week. Every time I go to pick one up, something interferes. I like to really get stuck into a book so I'm going to wait til there's a bit of guaranteed peace before I get started.

Scampi didn't get on with the halti at all yesterday, we didn't even make it out of the front door. I know it can take a while to get used to them so I didn't push it – just a few sessions of putting it on and taking it back off again.

Has anyone seen my wellies? :D My scruffy old trainers have finally fallen apart and the garden's quite muddy now so I really need them. I've searched and they're nowhere to be seen. Bit annoyed about this, I couldn't get stuck into the gardening properly yesterday without muddying up my nice boots. Gggrrr.

It's a bit misty again today, the washing will have to be dried indoors. I'll do a bit of gardening again this morning, I'll just stay at the top end where it's not too muddy :D Crochet this afternoon, I think.

    Morning everyone

Back in from walking the girls, last nights fog has gone but it's still murky. Yesterday afternoon was nice for a couple of hours at least.
Took time yesterday to sort through some old photos that have been procrastinating about for ages, put some to one side and will be looking for an album in CS to put them in, the rest will be recycled as many of my ex.
Am going to see my DM this afternoon as she wants to look for a smaller suitcase for a week's holiday with her brother, she saw some in D@nelm that she liked so heading there first.

Wishing everyone a good day x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a nice morning again but apparently it will rain this evening. I couldn't sleep so got up around 4ish and came down so I wouldn't disturb my hubby. It is his birthday today so I made him a coffee and a couple of bacon rolls to keep him going before he went to work.

I have DD's 14 and 15 home today. DD14 is very poorly with a sore throat and temperature and DD15 was very sad and upset this morning and I don't think she would cope with school today. They are both in bed now where they will get some rest.

I managed to go out yesterday with my friend. I am so pleased, I got hubby's steak and some bones for Max. I even managed to get the bus there and back. I know it's silly to be so pleased but it was a big deal to me. I hadn't left the house since 1st September for an appointment and before that it had been weeks where I had stayed at home. My legs were like jelly and it took me a while to stop shaking but it was worth it.

Today I am expecting a lot of deliveries as my friend did her Christmas shopping online from here and they are all being delivered here within the next few days. I'm sure my postie will be cursing me :o. I also want to make a trifle for hubby as it's his favourite so I will get cracking with that in a minute to give it time to set. Apart from that I will be knitting, I'm having a break from hedgehogs and moving on to owls for a change.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Well done DUMPLING!! I wondered how it had gone. Happy Birthday to your DH and I'm sure he will enjoy his steak all the more knowing what a big step it was for you to shop for it. xx
