New build help

Ok so I'm fairly new to this and need a bit of help as I'm unsure of what to do for the best.

In October 2014 I moved into a new build home. The builder told me the supply was with Scottish power so on the day I moved in I rang them with the meter serial numbers and the meter readings.

A couple of months went past I heard nothing so chased it up to be told It can take a while and to wait while a welcome pack arrives . So it got to February still not heard anything so I rang again where a customer services advisor was seemingly able to set me a gas and electric account up over the phone so it was all looking good. Tried to provide up to date meter readings a day later and was then told the account had been set up completely wrong and would have to be deleted and set up again and to wait for a welcome pack with new account details.

Heard nothing again for months until 1st October 2015 when an electricity bill dropped through the door saying your final electricity bill and dated for March -April this year.

I've tried ringing up about 5 times in the last month and no one seems to be able to sort me out with a gas and electric account and I get told something different every time I ring up. I'm really not sure where to go from this point if anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful

    Welcome to the forum.


    Essentially you need to write or email and get a paper trail - mentioning in the letters that you have made frequent phone calls..


    Scottish Power are a mess, if you can prove* you have taken all necessary steps to get an account then they can only back-bill you for 12 months.


    This means you will now start getting 'free' gas and electricity.


    * phone calls are not 'proof'.
