Acorn current acount anyone?

I keep an eye on my spam folder, periodically forwarding phishing emails onto the appropriate bank.
This month I have noticed a new name among all those dancing, twinkling enticements to gamble or enlarge my penis (with no Y chromosome I have no interest in that!)- Acorn Current Accounts, guaranteed to accept me with no credit checks etc. The most noticeable thing about them is that they have emailed me 83 times in the past 20 days!
Is it a scam? Phishing attempt? Or some sort of genuine, if over-enthusiastic, bank? I'm not tempted by them so it's mere curiosity on my part.

They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Similar to Cash Plus and aimed at those who can't get a proper bank account.
Their fees are quite steep.

There is a monthly fee of £9.95. This is payable monthly in advance. It is debited from your account on the 1st of every month, so you can easily plan your finances. You can add a secondary cardholder for £5.00 per month.
