PC Monitor Compatibility question

I have a 10-year old Dell Dimension 5000 running on Windows XP. The monitor is on the way out and I'm thinking of buying a BenQ VW2245Z LED VA 21.5 -inch W Monitor. Will this work with my old pc and XP?
I'd appreciate your help with this.

Thanks for the quick responses. The old monitor is flickering intermittently and stays dark for 10 minutes or more after being in idle mode (so I now switch off rather than let it go into this mode).
I was thinking of just replacing the PC as it doesn't owe me anything after 10 years but it runs well, I have Office 2003, outlook express etc - things which I like. Then there is Windows 10 and I thought I should wait at least a few more months until (some of) the bugs have been sorted.0 -
It could be the graphics card, or on board graphics, so test the monitor on another system before you write it off. What outputs are available on the Dell-probably just VGA? If so make sure the BenQ has the same inputs.
There's no issue with running it with XP, just check the connector compatibility. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
is it monitor power saving or pc power saving
also check leads and connections
newer machines tend to use hdmi now, so if the replacement doesn't have this you may be stuck with a useless monitor when you upgrade the machine0 -
I have a Dimensions 5000 and a Ben Q monitor. It comes with a driver, on disk manual and Adobe. Works just fine. :cool:0

Thanks macman and windup. It's the pc on power saving and this is when the problem first started a few weeks ago. Then a couple of weeks ago the flickering started.
Good points made by you both - I'll see if I can check the monitor elsewhere. The pc is just vga and the BenQ is vga and DVI.0 -
disable the monitor off/graphics card power saving in xp

as regards the flicker, sometimes power supplies can interfere, as well as vga cable issues, so check those by straightening the cable if kinked, re-seating the cable, and moving away from any transformers0
