Can I get refund + Paypal fees??

Hi,

It looks like I'm going have to ask a seller for a refund. Item not delivered .

If the seller refunds me via Paypal I will then not receive the full amount I paid, as Paypal will deduct their fee.

Is it fair to ask for a refund amount of more than I paid? How would I calculate the extra to cover the Paypal fee ?

If the seller does a refund, you will get back exactly what you paid. If they just send you money then you will be charged. Most sellers know to how refund properly so you should be ok.

  • they may not refund the postage amount but that is down to individual sellers if they have a receipt they should have no problem refunding the full amount as he/she can claim for the lost item

Why would they not refund me the postage amount? I have paid for the item + postage and rec'd nothing. Being a tad sceptical if a seller did not send the item he could then pocket the postage money he supposedly paid.

I understood that it is the sellers legal obligation to ensure delivery of the item. Not my responsibility to pay postage for the non-delivery. Is this not correct?

I always get a 'Proof of Posting' when sending any item I've sold.

I'm quite sure (someone pls correct me if I'm wrong) that if you do a paypal chargeback you will receive the full amount you paid including p+p.

  • i am only pointing out that if a seller has sent the item without a proof of purchase he will not be happy about losing the item and the postage they have paid some ebayers even have it in there return policies, i have seen a lot of negative feedback for sellers who did not return the full amount in the few years i have been doing ebay, it all depends on the seller and their policies

p.s. i have only had 3 items go missing in 3 years and always get a reciept and given full refund but never claimed from royal mail yet

but i am not the seller you are dealing with so its down to them i would go through the listing to check and get in contact with them asap

i hope you do get it all back and am only warning you that some not all will charge the postage

If a seller refuses to give back the full amount including postage then just chargeback. Paypal will refund in full, sellers should not expect to keep any part of the original sale costs back from the buyer when an item fails to arrive.

Going slightly OT, if you only get proof of posting it will not be accepted as proof of delivery with paypal if there is a problem.
We send all our items either recorded or special delivery so if a problem over non-delivery arises and the buyer is not being quite truthful we have the evidence. Having said that we try to solve all problems before a customer goes to paypal.

Anyway back on topic, if your seller is decent and knows what they are doing then you will get your full amount paid back. If not raise a dispute with paypal.

Thanks for that Soolin. If I get any refund problems I'll have to come back to find out how to do a 'chargeback'. Thanks for your help

Just came across this thread, apologies for highjacking it.

Paid via Paypal for an item I bought through eBay three weeks ago. Paid £36.01 including postage.

The seller sent me a refund today of £35.00 (don't know why it was £1.01 less) but then I was charged a fee on this amount of £1.39 leaving me with £33.61. Not very good actually. Obviously the seller just sent me the money instead if refunding it through Paypal.

I would refund the sellers payment and ask him to refund you properly, it also gives you the chance to ask why he only gave you a partial refund.
