Mess left by gas company entry while we were away

To address a couple of points made:
1. Yes, I appreciate that the priority is to detect the leak, and I'm glad they managed to find the keyholder rather than forcing entry. Even not putting things back is OK given they're looking for a leak and there was a suggestion that they may have to dig the floor up in our home. But is it so much to ask that they at least try and move things in some kind of order? We came back to a mess that looked more like burglary than gas men, with boxes emptied out where they'd fallen over and the contents simply walked over.
2. I agree with those who have said the neighbour should have put it back - if the situation were reversed we'd have accompanied them and moved anything for them so we knew it could go back the same way. I'm not happy that they seem to have been allowed in unaccompanied - but since the neighbour was doing us a favour in the first place, my partner doesn't want to cause bad feelings by talking to them.
3. There's no question of compensation. We'd just like to voice our displeasure at the appropriate people so maybe their workmen have a little consideration next time. If nobody complains, nothing ever changes. We're fortunate enough to be capable of putting it all back ourselves, but the street is full of elderly and disabled people - if it had been another neighbour they wouldn't have been able to do it themselves.0 -

If I'd seen the mess before the people making it left, I would have had words with them. Anything looking like it could have caused further damage by being left, such as a knocked over bottle of liquid, I would have sorted out, but that's it.
I know without asking that my neighbours (who we get on very well with) would not expect any more.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
