Hi, Today extra energy have taken £233 out of my account yet I havn't signed up with them. I am with Hudson energy and pay £112 p/m for both gas & elec. I was with extra energy previously and I am signed up with the cheap energy club but I have not changed supplier. I rang them earlier but can't get through and had to hang up as on my mobile in work. I have emailed them to contact me asap. I have just looked through my emails and I had an email from them dated 22/Oct that has my first bill from them which I missed. Any Ideas how they have managed to sign me up and what best course of action can I take,

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I am not new to the uk, and I have lived in my current home for 17 years. I suspect this is something to do with the cheap energy club I signed up for. I ave had emails to say I can save £9 p/m but have not bothered as I am locked in until july 2016 with hudson and have a £60 leaving fee. All very confusing and who would sign up for double what they are paying ?

Just checked my emails again and as far as I can see I am signed up with green star energy but it shows as hudson energy on my bank statement. It's going to be a busy couple of day's I think.

    Hi there

Just to confirm on this one, Hudson Energy is the parent company of Green Star Energy. I understand that when the direct debit is taken, this would show on your account with the reference Hudson Energy.

In terms of your Cheap Energy Club registration, we absolutely don't automatically switch you based on savings alerts. Rather you'd need to login and complete an application form for each switch.

Extra Energy should be able to help your track down where the original switch request came from.

I hope this helps to clear things up.

Thanks Dan. I did follow the link in the email but when I noticed I wouldn't save much at all I left it be. Whether I made a mistake by clicking on something i'm not sure but definitely didn't do it on purpose as I said previously I was not going to save hardly anything until my contract was up in July2016. If it wasn't for such a large amount £233 as opposed to my regular £112 it wouldn't be so bad. Need to get to the bottom of this but it's not easy trying to sort out in work

    Hi there

You'd have needed to fully complete the application form, including plugging in banking details for this to be submitted (plus you'd have received confirmation emails).

If you drop us an email through to energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com we'll double-check this wasn't made through your account here.

    Thanks

When were you with them ? Did you receive a closing bill ? What dates are you being billed for, what meter reads have been used ? Just because it says "first bill" does not mean it is, most of their bills are "first bill".

If it is not due then get on to your bank and get the DD recalled then cancel the mandate NOW !

Update: I eventually got through to extra energy yesterday and basically it is the final bill for gas and Elec from 02 Feb 2015. What really threw me was the email that stated it was my "first Bill"
I have checked my bank statements and it looks okay as there was a gap when I changed provider and with it being over the winter that's how it was more than my monthly dd. I have learned a lesson to keep on top of things when closing an account and changing, I presumed Cheap Energy Club was going to finalise it all. I have made a complaint to extra energy that it has been so long before they have called in the final payment but they did apologise, seems they are under pressure by the time it took to bill me and the endless waiting on the phone,

Thanks For the help everyone, much appreciated,

    Tony
