O/S Daily Thread Monday 2nd November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and now gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, damp and foggy but not cold.

Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, peas, stuffing, Yorkshires and gravy, dessert was treats from the tins or ice cream. Dinner tonight will be slices, new potatoes and veg for the menfolk. I’ll be finishing the last slice of med veg tart with salad.

We did get one of the jobs on the list finished yesterday, so that’s now crossed off the list, and DH is making headway with another, so hopefully that won’t be too long before that’s nearly finished too.

We received news yesterday that one of our friends passed away early yesterday morning, so that threw us both off track a bit, although we knew how poorly he was and we were expecting the phone call, still doesn’t make it any easier. We then also found out that a lady that we knew had passed away and her funerals today but no-one had let us know. DH made several telephone calls and some other friends of ours are able to go to represent us.

I’m sure we’ll be reasonably busy today as it’s the beginning of the month, so hoping the day will pass quickly.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Sorry for your losses Nmlc. Such sad news.:(

I've been awake an hour. Well since the men went thundering down the stairs and out to work. 5 days of peace before the bedlam starts again.

Loads to do in the house today as the place looks like a bomb has hit it.

News from South Africa. Soldier's birth family has had a house fire. No lives were lost but they have lost nearly all they had. The girls are doing what they can to replace items destroyed.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off.

It is foggy here this morning, as I think it is in a large part of the country. Yesterday was the same, but by lunch time the sun was shining, so hopefully today might be the same.

We took our carpet cleaner up to DD yesterday, we had planned on cleaning the carpet for her, but she wanted to do it herself. We are going today to move the furniture back, but she is very determined. She has to do things in stages because of pain but she wants to do things herself.

We had roast beef yesterday with all the trimmings, which was delicious. Today we will have the remaining beef with salad and jacket potato.

We only had 3 groups of trick or treaters on Saturday so it was a quiet evening except for fireworks. I suppose we will have those until the middle of this month now, they do seem to go on forever.

HH I hope MIL is comfortable, and hopefully the menfolk will sort themselves out soon.

Right, I am off to put some washing in the WM in the hope I will be able to put it out later.

    Have a good day all

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off NMLC. Sorry to hear you have lost some friends. It's sad news to get even when it is expected.

We have yet another foggy start here but it's forecast to burn off again. If it turns out like yesterday that will be very welcome. It was hard to believe it was the 1st Nov and we were just in t-shirts!

The jobs closing down the caravan generates is never ending! Today I have all the curtains and bedding to iron. Then to bag up, along with everything else we brought back that we didn't want to get damp. When DD gets herself organised and brings all her stuff up, we will stow it all away in the loft until March.

I was up at silly o'clock again this morning and have a pan of chicken and ham broth simmering away. That will do nicely for Mr TA's lunches for the next couple of days. He enjoys it so much he'd eat it every single day of the week if I gave it to him!

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) if wanted/needed and take care if you are out and about in the fog. xx

Editing to say sorry to hear of the house fire JUDI. Such sad news as they look such a happy family all smiling at the camera.

The garlic and onions have been planted. It looked a bit odd though, there was a variety of carrots – orange, yellow and purple :D

    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday I thoroughly ended my date with Bond. I'm not really a fan of the series and this is the first one I've seen at the flicks for many a long year and I get bored watching films on TV generally. Only did a little shopping up there though I did walk round the harbour as items a really lovely day.

What a start to your day nmlc, such sad news for you day.

I still in bed as I woke twice during the night, once for the loo and then again for a wide awake spell. No idea why.

I going to make efforts to have a dry November, just fancy it really. Mind you I'm away for two weekends during which I'll see friends and family for at least one meal out each time. Let's see how good my self control is?

Today is another dose of laser treatment on my chin and then I've got some banking to do. Got a cheque from DVLA for old cars' refunded tax and I emptied the full-to-the-top TARDIS money box so that needs banked.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

    Morning All

Dry at the moment but a bit gloomy. I have DDs bedding here but will put it in the conservatory in case of rain. Yesterday was glorious, shame I wasn't home to put washing out!

Went to the cake and bake show (free tickets, thanks Martin) which was good, just big enough to take everything in and get lots of freebies, mainly food to eat, such lovely cheeses, oils, breads, salami and cakes! Saw Nadiya from Bake off, she's so tiny!

Anyway, I bought a spiraliser so my salad is looking very posh this morning! Also bought some cheese that I shared with DD.

nmlc - sorry to hear of your losses.
tru - hope you can get Scampi's new lead sorted.
LW - enjoy having your hairy visitor!
Judi - so glad no-one was hurt.
HH - Let's hope you have a better day, your BIL needs a good talking to (and more).

Work, netball with the little darlings and then the dentist for a chat about a broken crown post. LO veggie curry for tea and no doubt something spiralised!

    Take care. XX
  • JUDI so sorry to hear of the fire, but what a relief no one was hurt. Where will the family live whilst it is being sorted, will they have to stay in the house? The girls are kind to help because they must be so busy with the children

    Morning all,

Foggy here again it did not lift all day yesterday and was a really gloomy day by evening you could not see the front hedge which is no more than 10ft from the house, I do hope today is better.

Off to work for me but at the quieter site which is much slower and tbh a bit boring, I need to think of things for the clients to cook all week !

The rest of the roast lamb for dinner tonight which is nice and easy, just shove in the oven.

Got the gate up yesterday and it looks really good, am saving for a new front door now !

Hugs to all in need and have good days all xx

TA. We too need to think about putting our caravan to bed for the winter. It's stored under cover when not in use but hubby likes to change the crystals before winter sets in. Only thing that puts us off is the fact if the winter is bad he will need it for work. He's now looking into buying a 4wd to tow it.
