Monday 2nd November - What small DFW things will you do today? :)

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning all - I'm not sure when I will get on here in the morning so thought I should post this now. It will make me accountable for the day ahead even if I'm not feeling like I'll manage. I'm just about to fall into bed after spending the evening in hospital with my dad, who thankfully is ok, but had us worried for a while... Trouble is I'm very short of sleep now and I just don't function well on no sleep. :( Ah well - the list will help me.
:D Check banking and PAD
:D NSD
:D Go to my friend's exercise class
:D Full day teaching
:D Mark 1 set of books
:D Get dh to do the housework and decluttering while I'm at work
:D Try not to get stressed
:D Stay hydrated
:D All meals from stores
:D Do NOT do any comfort spending
:D Do NOT make any big decisions
:D Make sure that I check up on my dad at least once and check in with my sister.
Today is going to be about survival. I need to get through it with my sanity intact, without crying and without a migraine.

    So sorry to hear about your Dad CCL. I'm glad he's ok. I won't say can't you take the morning off as I'm sure you would be if that was possible. Please go steady today lack of sleep makes everything worse.

    Just having a coffee whilst the world wakes up. Watching a report on the BBC about hidden homelessness. They are interviewing a lady with a new baby and young toddler who lives in 1 room of a house that the council are putting 10 strangers up in. I honestly would go mad in a set up like that. Feel so sorry to know that's reality for some people. And makes me grateful for what we have even more.

    Have a good week everyone.

    Morning folks

    CCL - hope your Dad is OK - and look after yourself. Hope work today isn't too strenuous.

    My day looks like:-

    Proactive MSE-ing
    • All meals from stores
    • Deal with complaint to I*ea re mattress - DH wasn't up to much last night (bad knee day)
    • I have a phone number I need to call about Dad's pensions from many moons ago - will do this today
    Winter prep
    • Make up Black out box & put in newly cleared space in living room unit (I have all the stuff - it's just not all together) - I will start this tonight
    Christmas prep
    • Dig out Christmas card box and put into Christmas shelf in spare room - I'm collating all stuff together - means I don't have to hunt stuff out later on
    Round tuits
    • Clean out a couple of drawers in living room unit - a definite today
    Good habit forming (28 days to set a habit into daily routine or something like that - I'm going for 1 a week)
    • Post on here once a day 8/28
    • Get up at 6 am on work days (rather than the 6.45 where I roll out of bed / into shower and off to work in 15 minutes) 1/28
    Happy cheapness and freeness
    • On to series 4 of "The Walking Dead"
    Painful - but gotta be done
    • Ironing - thankfully not much but still yeuch
    • Check banks for direct debits going out and look at bills
    • Clean out another kitchen cupboard to up the Mins game total (remember - I have loads of junk and I haven't Kon Maried yet so this should really not be too hard for me)
    Mins game - 17/465

    Have a good day y'all. Take care

    Hi guys thanks for starting the thread cat. Hope you are ok and today all the kids are in an easy post half term mood x

    Bob the housing situation is dire at the moment. It's heartbreaking and tragic. I can't bare what the Tory's are doing to our welfare state. Not that I work right now but I would happily pay more taxes to ensure the most vulnerable in society are looked after. If you look at the Scandinavian countries where they truly have welfare states as a population they are much happier societies...

    Clootiesmum (and everyone else) you have inspired me to play the mins game too :D

    Things for today:

    * [STRIKE]taking dgd to soft play[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE]
    * all meals from stores
    * an hours gardening :j
    * prep for interview later in the week
    * wrap up db's birthday gifts using paper from stash
    * some form of exercise
    * onepoll/surveys
    * mins game 12/465

    Ok think that's my lot at the moment. Have a lovely day everyone x

  • Morning everyone

    Just checking in quickly, need to get ready for work, breakfast eaten, packed lunch made, have checked finances, no heating on - its foggy but not particularly cold.

    Bob one of the things I am so thankfully for is that we got on the property ladder when you could buy a nice house for £40k. Finances might be tight but at least our mortgage is fairly small.

    Right, need to shift myself!

    Morning all!

    Sorry I haven't been around - didn't have internet access again! Hope you're all well as haven't caught up yet.

    So my best friend of 25 years (and I'm only 29!) had a little baby boy this morning! So excited and happy and even more so as she hadn't found out the sex! So really want to go out and buy loads of stuff, but I will behave myself as there are two specific things she's asked for. However I would like to get something else so I was thinking of getting a little money box?

    Today I have/will:-
    * Check banks
    * Transfer money to appropriate accounts
    * Take lunch to work
    * Charge phone in work
    * Dinner from stores
    * Take drink to cinema later

    Literally can't think of anything else as I'm too excitable right now!

    Afternoon all :)
    Thanks for starting the thread CCL. Hope you and your Dad are both ok :(

    Today's list (such as it is):
    Been to sales unit to tidy up / put in a few more items. Fortunately a few more things had gone, so my takings for the month, though pretty poor, were not as dire as I thought they would be :T

    Returned non-fitting dog coat to ebay trader (it is a business seller, so I didn't feel bad about doing so, and they were happy to offer a refund). Used free stamps from postal survey to do so, so zero cost :)

    Paid a cheque into the bank

    Walked all journeys

    A couple of surveys, checked FPL

    Washing out on line to dry, though it was only free from damp and fog for about an hour, and it is coming back down now, so I must get it in. I will put it on the airer to finish off.

    Walked pup

    Hehas gone for his free trial groom at the vet's this afternoon. I must go and pick him up in a minute :)

    No shopping today, using up items from stores :)

    I will make fishcakes for supper, using leftover mashed potatoes from yesterday :)

    Today's Mins items:
    Old bath sponge
    Perished pair of rubber gloves
    Pair of socks with holes in
    All binned -
    now 4/465

    Still to do:
    Ironing :eek:
    Clean stairs

    Right, better go and pick up pup :D
