nas drive

Looking at getting a nas drive with at least 4TB drive. I want to be able to access data from various devices like tv (Samsung 1080p), tablet and pc. I be mostly streaming 1080p video, music and some photos
I am a little concerned that some cheap nas drives like
SEAGATE Personal Cloud Home Media Storage - 5 TB and WD My Cloud Personal Cloud Storage - 4 TB wont be able to transcode video.
I looked are more pricey Synology DS215j DiskStation 2-Bay with various options for hard drive size but I gather this is cheapest system they do would it be okay with 1080p
I have a router on order that is TP-LINK Archer VR900 AC 1900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit and I have a couple of wireless homeplugs TP-LINK TL-WPA4220T KIT AV500 Powerline
I can currently stream from pc to smart tv 1080p video using plex but I want to be able to do it without pc using a roku or tablet
Any ideas? Thanks

Can't comment on the Seagate or WD, but I have had a Synology DS110j for a number of years.
It is easily accessible from ios and android devices via apps and I am also able to stream to my Sony bluray player.
There are a large number of other packages you can install and run as well.0 -
If you are looking at transcoding then I'd suggest the Synology play range as these are specifically designed for transcoding, there is a new model coming out the DS216 play:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9699/synologys-ds216play-a-transcoding-nas-with-st-microelectronics-stih412
This will be more future proof and has more transcoding grunt.
As regards pricing, this is taken from the above link:
"However, given the low cost of the DS216play compared to other 2-bay NAS systems (seems to be available for pre-order at £170 in the UK right now), we expect another model to come into the market by the time HEVC Main10 becomes relevant to the average consumer. We will update the article with ship date and pricing for the North American market once we have the information in hand. Based on the UK pricing, our guess is that the unit will come in between $200 and $250 for a diskless configuration - similar to most other 2-bay ARM-based NAS units."Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Thanks guys for your help. I gather from on-line reviews that QNAP TS-251 is also a good make slightly better than Synology. Anyway I will wait until I get me new router its on back order.0
