I have a Royal Mail Online. Business Account and have sold something with free Uk postage to a BFPO address

As it has a UK postcode in the address (even though it's going overseas) do I just put an ordinary 2nd class PPI label on it ?

If it has a UK postcode then that will give problems in the postal system. It should only have the BFPO number. UK postcode and BFPO number is an either/or, not both

A Postcode will override the BFPO info and cause the package to be delivered to the wrong part of the Military postal system if it gets into the system at all

  • Franking can't be used with BFPO addresses so you would be well advised to check if PPI labels can be used. Franking will actually incur a fine to the license holder.

BFPO mail must go 1st class. The code on the OBA system is BF1. You'll need an airmail sticker and a Customs declaration sticker on it. I very rarely get BFPO but when I do the parcel goes in a separate bag with an airmail tag on it.

All BFPOs now have a UK postcode which will direct it correctly. Both can be used together. ie BFPO2, BF1 3AA. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/463810/bfpo_indicator_list_25_Sep_2015.pdf

Didn't realise that. 8 years since I've been at a BFPO

The reasoning was that many UK companies used automatic addressing systems and could not accept BFPOs so a standard UK postcode format was introduced. RM direct anything with a BFx xxx postcode to Northolt.
