Temporary Life Insurance

Last year we cancelled our life insurance policy (on mortgage) We are currently getting it renewed but it can take at least 2 months. Is it possible to get temporary insurance to cover this period, obviously it will be one without a medical report as this is what is causing the delay, based purely on what you tell them over the phone (the truth of course) but without having to go through all the delays. If possible I expect it would be much more expensive but can it be done. Apart from that & I know it's a bit of how long is a piece of string question but how quickly did others manage to get their application approved. There is one party who had a heart attack 6 years ago & fine since, that information has been given. Thank you.

It will probably be your doctor who is holding it up.
Life insurance companies can not chase the GP for I think 28 days. You could call your GP and explain the urgency and give them a bit of a kick up the backside. They get paid about £100 for filling out the form so not too shabby for an hours work.

  • Thank you for your reply. I will get on to the G.P It's for my mother and she is a terrible worrier and would like this sorted asap so she can forget about it. I presume once the medical report has been returned the application process can be completed very soon after ?
  • A bit late for the OP but as a general rule, do not cancel the old life policy until the new one is actually up and running, just in case.

It can take minutes (if clean health) or months to a year if suspended.

No. Its too late now. All are going to suffer the same delay (GP report)

GP report every time. Possible tests too depending on the quality of the GP and specialist reports.

  • Speak to the guys at Pulse Insurance Ltd (I can't post a link because I'm new to the site) they arrange temporary cover for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. Hope that helps.
