Good insurer for dealing with claims?

Hello everyone
We have had a nightmare over the last few years with our home insurer.
We have had to claim for storm damage and for emergency work with leaking sewage pipes. The insurer basically couldn't handle the claims properly - their process of using lots of external companies made the experiences much more difficult and exasperated the damage.
So we are hoping to find a decent company for claims that deals with everything together, or at least only uses one or two external parties.
Can anyone recommend a home insurer that is good at claims?

The insurer will handle simpler claims, but claims that are a little more complicated, especially if they are higher value, they will be handled by a loss adjustor. They, in turn, will then appoint contractors to carry out works.
Different contractors have different specialities. Like you wouldn't expect a drainage company to be able to repair a roof - this is why insurers use different contractors. The insurance company and/or loss adjustors cannot carry out works themselves - pretty much all insurers operate in this way.
For example if you had a flood you'd have a loss adjustor on the claim, then another company to deal with drying the property, then one company to deal with buildings reinstatement, then possibly another company to deal with flooring such as carpets etc. It's just how insurance works.0 -
Thanks Future Girl. If we could find somewhere that doesn't use an external claims company, that can authorise expenditure themselves, it would be an improvement. It's not just the contractors that's the problem but the external companies doing the claims handling (eg Davies/ Property Consortium etc, we'd like to remove them from the process)0

Although I haven't used them myself I believe NFU Mutual have a good reputation for claims handling for home insurance.0
