Insurance co. want to charge NOT to renew

Hi,
My OH has just phoned Privilege Insurance to stop the auto-renewal of our car insurance. But they have told her that they will charge us £52 to stop the auto-renewal!!! Is this right? I would have thought that since we are not simply entering into a new contract that they can't charge us a cancellation fee. We're not cancelling, we're just not renewing!

Sounds like they are charging you an admin fee to change the policy - ie remove auto renewal.
Their auto renewal clause doesn't mention a charge for not renewing. Is there anything in the policy schedule about a charge?
Make it clear to them that you will not be renewing and the policy is to lapse at renewal.0 -
Sounds more like a cancellation charge. Did you contact them BEFORE the renewal date? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Yes, it is a cancellation charge. And we phoned them before the renewal date asking not to renew0

Contact them again and impress on them that you want the policy to lapse and not renew.
Don't use the word cancel.
There is no charge for this as long as you tell them prior to the renewal date
Once they have understood your instructions ask them to confirm them back to you in writing0
