  • Love the siggie Whoops.
I agree with Phil, i really could NOT have got through this without the help i've had from here. OK maybe i could have, but i would never have got through it so well and would probably still be dithering about and hiding from the doorbell/post.

  • Thanks guys. I had a really bad nights sleep last night (I thought those days were over!) thinking about what to do, I might write him a letter and tell him to B***er ff and leave my parents out of it as it has nothing to do with them. I'm really annoyed that i've let it get to me. I hope he's the first and last person I come across like that (although I doubt it).

By the way BLTN I forgot to mention yesterday do you KNOW my Grandad??? ;)

Aw whoops, just what you don't need right now is some self-righteous 'person' spouting off.
Remember though, he will be old and lonely, the only friends he has are just after the inherietance. You, on the other hand have real family and friends. They have stuck by you because of you, not because of anything they may one day get.

  • Your grandad is in the wrong if you swallowed your pride, asked him for help and he turned his back on you then sod him. Whats the point of all that money if you don't help loved ones.

    Oh honey
I'm sorry your grandad is being so awful to you. I definitely think that people like him are simply not worth bothering with. I don't think anyone has the right to lecture you or to make you feel bad, no matter how wealthy they are and no matter how much they think they know it all.

Try not to think too badly of him. In his day BR would have been a far far worse thing than it is now, and he no doubt is upset for you as much as anything else.

Don't let money !!!! get in the way of your family relationships. Your family will be around long after the BR has been wiped from your record.

Rise above it. You did what you had to do and one day he may learn to respect you for that.
  • My dad was suddenly a bankruptcy expert on my first conversation with him after the BR order. Some of his gems were...

    1. "I've got a mate who has just gone BR for £20,000 and 'they' said that he was going to be undischarged for 15 years"

Now. Any statement my dad quantifies with 'I've got a mate...' is usually total and utter b*ll*cks. Perhaps it is true, I doubt it. In retaliation I said "he must have been pretty reckless or a heavy gambler to recieve a BRU like that". No. Apparently this mythical 'mate' is a proper salt of the earth bloke. Who really does exists of course.

    2. "Have they been to empty the house yet?"

My reply. They are welcome to if they think a couple of Tesco's Own Beans and a broken piano accordian will contribute significantly to my £25,000 tax bill. I pointed out that, of course, no-one comes round to your house unless you have cartier watches and plasma televisions, but of course that was all falling on father's cloth ears. He went silent for a millisecond, took in a sharp gasp of breath and said "Well, I've got a mate who........."

  • Just a quick post to say thanks to everyone! It seems that most people who like to offer their "valued" opinions don't know what they're talking about when it comes to bankruptcy.

On a similar point, I was out with friends today when they were talking about my lack of cooking experience the conversation went like this...

Me; "I can cook an egg you know"
    Friend 1; "No she can't"
Friend 2; "Give her some credit"
Friend 3; "I think that she's had enough of that"
...... Big long silence, before everyone eventually laughed.

Phew, this bankruptcy business is an awkward thing!
