O/S Daily Thread Sunday 1st November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all

Pinch punch and all that, the start of another month.

And I'm back to waking up just after 3, hey ho I've had a couple of better nights sleep, so I mustn't be greedy.

Hopefully I will get back to sleep as we don't have to be up too early today, from Monday we have to be up just after 5 so if I wake at this time I will not be able to get back to sleep in time,

Hospital visits will also be in the afternoon from Monday to fit in with hubby's shift pattern. That's if I can get permission to leave work early, if not he'll go buy bus, train and then another bus.

Fingers crossed, and if I do get permission to leave early I will have to make the time up if it's busy.

I treated myself to some more yarn, I must be mad, I have so much already, displacement activity I think.

The freezer did get defrosted yesterday, well one of them did, hubby took over as soon as I started, I think he just wanted to keep busy.

I need to make a list of all the points I need to bring up with the hospital on Monday, MIL desperately needs to be moved to the hospice as her care in the hospital is becoming more & more inadequate.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

  • Morning, I woke at 3 too, someone or other's Halloween bash seems still to be going on.
I tend not to get back to sleep HH so I have come downstairs and can usually find something to do.
I quite understand yarn buying as a displacement activity, I can't get o keep my stash down but at least I do have some plans for gifts to make in the next few weeks.
Might have another cup of tea now, the firework !!! Halloween party finally seems to have stopped, and although I would never do it, I do feel a bit like waiting a while and rhenium start blasting out some Beethovenen at them
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning all - just typed a long post and lost it!!!!

We have thick fog here - just what we didn't need for our drive over to the caravan site. DS coming for us around 9.30 and hopefully we will have no problems taking down the awning, covering the van and the decking etc. Will shortly make a pack of sandwiches and goodies for our lunch when hunger strikes. Last year DD assisted too but she is working today unfortunately.

The christening service yesterday was lovely but I felt I had no patience with Mr TA's DS's hugging and kissing him and wishing him well (neither of them have bothered coming to see him since early August!) and his DB had forgotten he was going in to start the treatment next week anyway, even though I text them all with updates after every consultation. Mr TA keeps telling me not to bother as if they really want to know they will ring us. It annoys me as I know how hurt he must feel but he doesn't admit it.

Just going to do the month end finances (a day late!) and then pack up our lunch. Take care all (((((((HUGS))))))) if needed/wanted. HESTER I hope hospice care is sorted soon for MIL, it really sounds to be needed xx

    Morning everyone.

Low white cloud here, looks not too bad.

Yesterday was productive. Got my new towels washed and dried and booked a week on Orkney for next year. Then the local 'scary monster' turned up for his Halloween visit. Adults took the opportunity to imbibe gin.

I've got a date with James Bond this afternoon :j in Oban so will do a bit of shopping when up there. That'll be my day.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

Hester You don't need to find a reason – yarn is a need :D

Fun and games yesterday morning – Cleo Chick decided to escape while Scampi was in the garden  I have no idea how I did it, because I'd been limping all morning, but I was out the door and had hold of his collar in a split second :D He'd managed to grab a couple of feathers but that was all, Cleo was fine. I didn't know a chicken could move so fast, lol.
He's taken to the Halti quite well, we had a few short lessons through the day. I'll do the same today then will try a very short walk to the bus stop and back tomorrow.

It's very foggy here too, I like it, it makes the house feel cosy :D I wouldn't be happy if I had to go out in it though, take care TravellingAbuella x

I've got a date too Gers – with some dinosaurs, I'll be watching Jurassic World :D Enjoy the film x

Just general housework to do this morning. I'm hoping mr tru will take Scampi out for half an hour, I want to plan some stripy blankets and I need to spread my yarn out to make sure the colours are right. If not, I'll have to haul everything up to the bedroom, shut myself in and spread everything out on the bed.

I've planned jobs for the next couple of days, I want to fill the week by the end of today. In fact, I'm going to make a coffee and do it now :D

No fog here, in the middle of the night it was so clear that I could see all the stars sparkling fit to bust. I am now so tired that my eyeballs may fall out and ooze gently down my fave. Still and all, have made most the front of a child's dress with sheep knitted into it, I do dislike intarsia.
Someone has forgotten to tell the elves to visit and tackle my ironing pile and have paperwork to do, argh.
DH and DS enjoying blissful lie in. Insert rude word of your choice here.

    Morning folks,

Was very foggy here first thing when took the girls out but the sun is burning it off quickly and it looks set to be a beautiful day, lovely for November :)
We are going to have a quiet day at home today, think the last few months of work stress is finally coming out, really weird but ache all over, guess tense muscles are starting to finally relax.
Think we will just have picky bits to eat after meals out for the last two nights, want to catch up on some of my favourite programmes and have the last bit of my book I really want to finish.

Hester - you need to find strength wherever you can m'dear, if that's in yarn more power to you :rotfl:

Happy Sunday to you all x
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Pinch and punch, rabbits etc.........It's very foggy here, I have a washer load to go out, hope the sun burns it off soon, otherwise it's going to have to go on the airer.

Tried to ring to see if OH has been moved, guess maybe Drs are on the ward, so he may ring me to let me know if he is coming home. I really would prefer him to have 2 days dizzy free, but we will see.

No plans to do anything today, will change the bed if OH is coming home. Still in it just now, will get up around 10 am, taking the chance to rest while I can.

I have taken chicken out for supper, will make some stuffing. No idea about a pudding. If OH is home I might do a whip of some description.
  • Good Morning everyone, very foggy here first thing but looks to be less thick now, I'm off home again today at lunchtime and He Who Knows will pick me up at the station at the other end. It's been nice looking after the kitten cat and being with DD but it will be nice to get back home and to routine. We will be walking Cookie again from tomorrow as the pub refurbishment is finished and they are open again, I have missed walking the girlie so much and it will be nice to be back doing that too. It doesn't seem possible it's November already does it?

Have yourselves a nice day, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

Thick fog here too will wait to see if it brightens up before putting washing on, I think I can see the sun peeping through.

Nice shoulder of lamb for lunch today and will do us for dinner tomorrow and any leftovers frozen will cook double today so will just need heating through tomorrow.

OH and I bought the new gate yesterday and concreted the posts in, we had to block the drive way to stop any trick or treaters walking on the wet concrete :D so all quiet here :rotfl:Just need to fit the actual gate today.

Going to have a tidy round this morning and do nothing at all after lunch, apart from watch a film and maybe nap !

Judi I know exactly what you are going through with your mum, its the same as my dad and its heart breaking as there is nothing at all you can do, you just have to sit and watch and be there to feed them or give them a drink, we made a rota so that we knew someone was going every day but I understand that this might not be possible with the relationship you have with your brother. Please pm me on here or FB if you need a chat xx

    Have good days all xx
