I'm considering advertising my car on Gumtree.

Has anyone any advice for me or experience of doing this?

Keep renewing your ad at least once a day if you dont want to pay, it keeps it near the top..........write out the details so you dont have to keep remembering them.

There is a rule to forbid this, because you are supposed to pay to get your ad at the top.

Sold my old car off the drive on Gumtree, got a lot more than scrap value.

Took weeks, got a lot of timewasters who said they were coming to see it and didn't though.

There is a really odd and undocumented feature, people can anonymously "offer" you a lower price, and you get what appears to be a spam email, it is for real though. Prospective buyers try to bid you down to find the minimum you will take, rather than emailing you to ask.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I sold a £500 car on gumtree, new buyer had collected it within about 18 hours of the ad going online. I've no experience of selling more valuable cars though.

Just make sure you've got good clear pictures and a good description.
  • I bought a car that was advertised on Gumtree. Turned up on time, offered close to the asking price and paid a deposit.

What you will normally get is people not turning up, or people saying things like, "What's your best price?" (to which you say £500 over the advertised price) or "I'll give you [50% of asking price] as I saw a similar car at [75% of asking price] only 500 miles away."

So you get a lot of !!!!takers.

I would say that your car is not really a gumtree type car, from what i have seen the cars on gumtree around here are pocket money bangers that are at or near the bottom of the market

and from what i have heard from a friend that advertised a 2K car on gumtree he was bombarded with badly written hard to understand text messages with offers of about 50% of what the car was worth

give it a go if you want and tell us how you get on but around here there are not many four or five year old BMW,s on gumtree
