Tablet from Tesco? Please help!

Options
Hey all, I am completely clueless with technology so I have no idea what is best so long as it works lol!

I have been saving my clubcard points and have managed about £60 worth so was going to buy 2 tablets for the kids for Xmas. Since Tesco have stopped the Hudl2 I have no idea what other ones to get so I'm looking for a bit of help. Don't have a strict budget as such although I'm looking for an android device.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm stuck!

You might want to have a look at the Amazon Fire range of tablets, the cheapest being £49.99, also a kids version reduced to £79.99 at the moment.

These tie you in to buying apps from Amazon, you can't buy from the Google Play store. This may or may not bother you.
I don't have one, so can't give you first hand info, but am sure that others will follow with better info.

Forgot to say that you can buy at Tesco too, so may be able to use up your Clubcard vouchers.

Clubcard Christmas boost starts Monday, so you might be able double up.

Since Tesco have stopped the Hudl2...
It still seems to be on sale for £99, as far as I can see!
  • I can't really help much, as I bought the Hudl, and haven't owned any other tablets.

As I understand it, the Hudl hasn't actually been "withdrawn", but rather, they're just not restocking the stores, so, if you're quick, there's a chance you might find a store, with a few left.

That's how I got my Garmin Nuvi 55, from Aldi.

Failing that, I'll be very surprised, if pre-owned ones don't start turning up in Cash Generators/Converters, and similar places, fairly soon.
  • Watch out for limited built-in memory, because while you may be able to add a 32Gb micro-SD card, many apps will not use it, so you'll find you run out and can't install any more apps.. (an external card is great for saving photos or mp3 files; also simplifies copying files to/from other devices).
If you want to use a tablet while out and about, offline maps are useful, especially if it has GPS. I currently use a Galaxy Tab 7" and a (cheap) Cube 51. (both will access the google play store).

you can get great cheap tablets if you know where to look and to be honest Tesco is not the cheapest why not try looking at some online stores such as Kikatek, Get Tech Direct, Mighty Micro or more computers they all have some good deals

It's mostly pre-installed apps, that can't be moved to the Micro SD Card.

That said, the Hudl 2 comes with a, fairly respectable, 16GB of built in storage.

You can also recover some space, if you strip out all the Tesco carp, and the bloatware.
  • Anyone know why there's so few hudl2s around at the mo and none online?
