    Hello All,

So my DD's have started to move around. Thanks for all the advice.

I'm still not sure which bank account is the best one to have as my day to day account. I was going to go Halifax but wonder if anyone thinks there is a better option...

For years Halifax was my main 'day to day' account, and I had/have no complaints whatsoever about functionality. It quite simply does what it says on the tin, and does it well.

These days I don't really have a 'day to day' account...
Utilities are paid by DD from Santander
Spending money is drawn from a 2% paying current account
Credit card bills are just about the only thing paid from Halifax these days, everything else is moved out on payday to various savings accounts and investment vehicles.

Thanks for the reply. That's what it's feeling like is going to happen. But I guess I'm resisting as it's new territory.

I don't think I'll have any DD's on my basic account. And if I do they'll be set up because it needs to have some to function without a fee etc.

This will be the account that my pay goes into, and the account that I buy stuff with day to day...

I suppose it boils down to whether you're happy to have your money making nothing until you spend it, or whether, like me, you'd rather it was earning interest (I know it's pennies, but it's a good habit to get into).

I agree. I'd like it making something wherever it is!

You keep saying that HSBC pays zilch but surely if you had upgraded to the Advance a/c you could have taken advantage of the loyalty monthly savings- £250 pm @ 6% (compound interest) and the very nice "save together" deal on the cash ISA- £120 for the year.... not exactly zilch (which ends very soon.) Plus no DDs needed. (Just a recycling of money to meet the minimum monthly payment criteria.

just a thought, but HSBC is my longest-standing Current Account too, and i wouldn't close and move that.. if you have more savings that you want to earn interest on, in excess of Santander and TSB limits, perhaps create a second account with one of your existing providers and transfer that?
