Hi all

My wife is after a cheap ish MP3 player
I thought it would be very easy in this day and age of cheap electronics to find one but I am struggling
We're after 8GB, with the ability to easily search for folders and files, decent ish sound, decent ish battery life, random play facility and in black. (Only needs to play MP3 format, anything else is a bonus)

Cheers for any all all help :)

Third recommendation for Sandisk. The Sansa Clip+ was always highly rated for a cheap MP3 player and this newer Clip Jam model looks as if its just as good.

You can use a microSD card to increase the storage, and meets your other requirements, only thing I'm not sure about is the "easy ability to search folders" bit.

Amazon link to black model - http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDMX26-008G-G46K-Clip-Jam-Player/dp/B00VXMY262/

    Cheers all

Maybe its me just being a tight wad, but when I saw a £20 quid stand alone bluray player for sale in the supermarket, I kinda thought we were in a new era of cheap electronics (Mistaken obviously)

I had already bought a cheapie one off ebay, but you cant put folders on it, cant search on it and the sound is FAR too low to be of any use on many music tracks.

Doing my own research I had found a RUIZU x02 g
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/744865/the-ruizu-x02-dap-thread

generally I would steer away from cheap chinese products, but if it has the hi-fi community buzzing it cant be bad.

I was originally steering towards the said Sandisk players, save for my thinking that there must be cheapie MP3 players (Like 20 quid?) out there that do just as well>

A quick question if I may, is it easy to search through folders on the sandisk players?

Cheers for all your help :)

  • Hi,

have a 'google' for Sandisk User Manual for whatever model you famcy, it'll let you know the functions,

If going to buy from Tesco and have Clubcard points, the Clubcard Christmas boost starts tomorrow, so you could double the value of them.

Sansa Clip Jam user manual on sandisk website (http://downloads.sandisk.com/downloads/um/clipjam-um.pdf)

One of the Main Menu options is "Folders – Browse and listen to content saved in individual folders."

I had a Sansa Clip years ago but only ever used it as a cheap MP3 player for when out on my bike and just used the shuffle option. I didn't have it too long as I lost it so am just back using my old Sony Walkman mp3 player which still works well but cost a lot more.

You say £20 is cheap, so an extra £5 to buy the Sansa Clip Jam from mymemory.co.uk is reasonable enough?

You could buy that RUIZU X02, but why bother when there is a well-rated alternative easily available for not a lot more?
  • I recently got a "Kubik Evo" - it has 8Gb internal and will take another 8Gb uSD card. It scans the files (internal only) and builds a library so you can choose by Artist or Album, etc. Mine was under £20, but usual price is higher.
20 hour battery, with screen (and readable text!). One of the best cheap MP3 players I've had.
