M and S credit card Farce!

I applyed for the M+S credit card on martins recomendation for a life of balance transfer.

I got an email asking me to call then regarding my application.


Then said that they had phoned the business number of the company i work for and i was (in their words) 'unavailable to take a phone call'

I told them thats because im a truck driver and the number was my bosses home number.

they said ' we cant find the company in the yellow pages'

I said 'not all companys are in the yellow pages, were dedicated hauliers who work for one company.'

He then said we will need to see 3 months wage slips.


I told him to cancel the application!

Waste of time!

Dont see the problem tbh

You dont have any given right to get a credit card in the first place?

Its entirely reasonable to ask to see proof of employment

Or should they just give everyone them regardless and when people cant pay the bills they can cry about illegal charges and irresponsible lending

I have never had to submit any extra info for any credit card or loan i have applied for in the past.
My credit file with the various credit reference agencies will give them all my past credit history, if im on the electoral role etc etc.

Just because you have not been required to send extra info in the past does not mean it is not legitimate now.
They can probably see your credit card limits and balances - so want to check out a few things - nothing wrong in that unless you have something to hide?
