Sporadic phone fault with sky

Hi all
I have a problem with my sky phone line. The problem seems to occur once every few months then disappears by itself, sometimes after a few days other times after a week or two.
Basically, when someone dials our number the phone either rings once then cuts out or it comes back as busy. If I try to dial outwards there is no dial tone. I've tried different sockets and different phones and the problem persists.
Phoned sky who said to try in the test internal socket on the main socket in the house and when I do that the phone works ok so they say it isn't anything they are at fault for.
Any ideas?

Remake all the connections and swap filters .0

apart from the master socket, how many other sockets and phones and stuff do you have ?0

Agree with the above but also, does it happen when it has been raining a lot? I had something similar, assumed it was an internal issue (and ring trips generally are) but it was actually water getting in at the omni. That would need an engineer visit, but look at the internals first.0

If it's 'all sockets', suspicion must fall on the cabling and connections from the NTE5 master socket onwards to the first extension box, so start in that direction. Very often it is simpler just to rewire than spend hours hunting for bad connections or boxes-they're both cheap as chips. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I had a similar problem - when I had an external exchange fault sorted by BT engineer, we had to disconnect internal extensions to allow him to complete his tests successfully. When we took the cover off the junction box in the porch where all the extensions were connected,we found water , so I made the decision to permanently disconnect. One of the house extension cables ran externally to a bedroom and closer inspection showed that the cable had cracked allowing water in.We use DECT phones now and keep the router attached to the master socket.0

I haven't noticed if it occurs when it rains to be honest. I have previously taken all other devices out of the sockets (we have a total of 2 phones and 1 router in the sockets around the house but normally 0 in the master socket). I removed all devices and just used the phone in the master socket and then it dials fine. I am hoping it is a water issue that will be covered by open reach?0

It depends WHERE the water ingress is -in my case ,I would have had to pay as it was downstream of the master socket. If the water ingress is before or at the master socket its BT Openreach's responsibility BUT they WILL charge you if they think that the damage is caused by your negligence eg ivy growing round external cables or obvious damage due to impacts etc on your land. - even animal damage!!0

No, because you've already demonstrated that the fault is downstream of the master socket by your tests. Which was why Sky asked you to do that test. Any call out will be chargeable at £130 minimum, so much better to fix it yourself. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
