Any experience of Pityriasis roascea.?

I've had this about a month now and w as wondering how others have fared with the symptoms and very day life , it's a miserable condition that keeps me awake and feeling very low.:(
My GP says it could last more than 6 months and could leave scars:eek:
Have you had this condition, what was the outcome?

  • I have had this condition twice. GP was useless and just said it would go away on its own time! I did extensive research on the Internet and stumbled across a forum where someone said to use anti dandruff shampoo instead of shower gel. I gave it a try and condition cleared up within a week after I'd had it for months!!
  • I wasn't left with any scars after using the anti dandruff shampoo. Hope it works for you.

Think you may be confusing it with Pityriasis versicolor which according to the NHS direct website can be treated with dandruff shampoo. Both DS1 & me suffer this (DS1 badly) but I think it is the versicolor one which is stubborn rather than the roascea which will eventually go.

  • Dr said I had roascea and it would go eventually. I wasn't prepared to wait months & anti dandruff shampoo worked for me. Got to be worth a try.
  • Thanks folks head & shoulders from now on, I'd sell my soul for a peaceful nights sleep. It's an absolute misery
You are right , Money maker it is the 2nd type I'm trying to prepare myself for a few more months agony.
I wondered if it was a reaction to the flu jab as it surfaced a couple of days after getting the flu jab
  • I've had it but it didn't last too long thankfully, only 2-3 weeks or so with the itching and the rash a couple more weeks on top from what I remember.
Anti histamines worked well as did anti dandruff shampoos, night time seemed to be the worst time for itching though
I know it can reoccur but thankfully it hasn't yet and no scarring.
Had to let people know at work too just in case they thought I had fleas as I was scratching a fair bit!:o
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D
  • The itching is just crazy
Went to go yesterday and got some cream and sympathy, because as you all know there is no 'cure' so it's just a case of managing the annoying symptoms. I tried the shampoo twice now and it stings a bit at first but does improve the appearance of the rash.
I'm not asking for medical advice but I am interested in other people's experiences.
One thing I have noticed is that wearing anything but cotton next to the skin is a mistake.
Thank you, for the shampoo tip.
