Cats and homelessness

Very soon my MIL will be made homeless (she has just received her date to vacate from the court which has already been and gone and I think the next step is bailiffs any day now). She has cats, aged between 1 and 17, and I am going to be calling around all the local rescues tomorrow to see if there is any chance of getting at least some of them taken in. The youngest 2 are actually not getting on at all nowadays (they are 1 and 2) and ideally seperate new homes would be found for them, though I know most rescues are full to bursting .

She really wants to keep three of them for wherever she ends up living, and this is what is causing me concern. I would be happy to take the eldest in for a while, but can't have a house full of cats that are anxious to get out and about and I can't let them because this would only be a temporary home, whereas I think he alone would be happy as a housecat for a while. I don't think boarding would be an option as it would cost a fortune and although they are all done none are vaccinated so I guess that puts a stop to that idea. Plus if they were seperated for a time would they accept each other when re-introduced?

I am feeling pretty awful about this so would appreciate any guidance or advice.
