Printer Command Problem

in Techie Stuff
My laptop ( windows 8.1 ) can't communicate with my printer for some reason. It stopped working when the black ink ran out but I've replaced that so it should be ok.
The printer is an HP Deskjet 4500 and I use it wireless.
What can I do to sort it out?
So far there are 9 documents in the printer queue.
Help please.

    Is the replacement ink cartridge a genuine HP product? Some manufacturers won't allow their printers to work with 3rd party replacements. Don't know if HP is one of them but thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

    Thanks but I always use HP original so it's not that either.
