Partner left, need to take over Sky a/c without break

Sky don't ask for proof as a matter of course - that is true. I would strongly recommend not calling up and telling them that your partner is dead. Should he apply to join Sky in the future you would likely find yourself in a whole heap of bother.
I do know that, again, they don't do this as a matter of course but Sky have used credit report agencies to confirm what is being told to them is true.
The only issue you might face is getting your Ex to phone up and confirm the cancellation. Back in the day I had copious amounts of problems with messy break-ups and cancelling accounts. If I were you, I would call up and notify sky that the account holder is no longer living at this address and supply his new address (if you have it). This means that if there are accounting issues he will get them and not you.0 -
You will still get all the non-subscription channels ('Freesat from Sky') during the downtime (indeed forever, if you don't resubscribe) And if you can manage with a mobile phone only during that period, the only thing you are losing is the broadband. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
