We may lose our cat over the vet bills that we can no longer afford

It does look like PDSA is your only option regardless of the slight difficulties to overcome getting there. Could you get a taxi to the station your end to save having to go on on the bus with your problem - surely that would work out cheaper than the private vet bills?

Get to your local PDSA. They will sort your cat for you at less than nothing. As I've not used them in years I'm not sure if they still only take people on benifits. Someone here will clear that up though.

My b/f spoke to the place the cat came from again yesterday, and there is some good news. They haven't said they will pay for the condition, or that they will pay a certain amount. But they have now said when it happens in the future that he needs to go to the vets for it again to contact them and they will see what, if any help they can offer us. So its no promise, but theres some hope there.
My b/f was able to have a longer chat with them and the place themselves admitted that they really don't want him back as they know he will likely be very difficult if not impossible to rehome. Plus they are aware that them taking him back they will have to foot the bill completely.
So hopefully between us and the rescue place we can keep him. We're certainly going to keep going with it as long as we possibly can.

With the costs of getting to the pdsa from where we live it won't actually workout much cheaper than the place we already go. Especially when you factor in possible time off work for my b/f to get him there. The cat is in his name, so I doubt I could do it for him, as they need proof as to the owner of the cat etc. Its a charity run vets we go to right now, but not the pdsa. They basically just offer discounts for people on benefits.

The good thing with were we go now is that they know the cat, and my b/f from all the visits and are fine with me taking the cat there without my b/f, saving him taking the time off work.
To be honest even if we had of managed to get him insured I still think we'd be in a bit of a problem because you have to pay the first x amount of each bill anyway. From what my mum said its usually quite a bit before they fork out anyway.

:T I don't see how your other half has to have time off work, cos if the benefit is in your name then just take the forms and the cat with you to the PDSA and register him under you. The PDSA are BRILLIANT. My dog is approx 14 now, but has been going to PDSA for quite a few years for various illnesses (think she likes it so much, she makes em up). Anyway 2 years ago she developed diabetes and I had to take her every day for a month for her injections (admittedly had use of a car, but still 1 hour away). Now only once a month, (unless she feels like a trip out). The minimum amount they like as a donation is only £5. I sometimes try to save up to pay £10 because I have to go every month to be checked and get her new medication. Anyway, don't wait long no more than an hour usually max 30 mins, abnd have never met nicer staff from vets nurses and receptionists.
Sorry to ramble, but to me and Georgey (my dog) they are the best thing since chocolate fudge cake
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

I was sad to read about your problems with your poor cat. Burns dry food doesn't contain additives - have you tried that? I used to give my cats tinned food & it actually works out cheaper too.

    Good luck with the cat
