Payment holiday

Hi,

Does taking a payment holiday affect anything with regards to your credit?

We have bought our new house (and moved in) and our sale is currently going through. We are expecting our sale to be completed by 27th November but as they haven't exchanged there is of course no confirmation of this. We would ideally like to contact our "old" mortgage company and take a one month payment holiday (for Decembers payment) so that in the event it doesn't complete by that date we wouldn't be paying both mortgages on 2nd December (purely because we go on holiday for 2 weeks on 30th Nov and obviously with Christmas coming up it would be a very expensive month !)

What I wouldn't want to do it take any form of payment holiday from the mortgage (or take a payment holiday from our loan) if it showed detrimentally on our credit file.

Thanks for any help

If it's an agreed payment holiday, I can't see that would result in anything negative on your credit file.

In your position, I think I might be a little more worried about exchange being delayed, or your buyer backing out - leaving you with double mortgage payments for an extended period.

I believe that it will be reported on your credit file, but that you probably wont be allowed it anyway.

Cut down on Christmas spending. There's absolutely no reason why it needs to be expensive, especially if it's going to affect your ability to pay your mortgage.
