Radiator replacement cost

Hello,

I have been quoted £500 + VAT to replace 7 like to like (or nearly like) radiators. I was expecting this around £350-£400 + VAT so this is slightly higher than what I expected but I'm pretty sure someone in this forum would have some recent experience for similar job and can share what they paid or whether this is a fair quote or not?

Thank you.

Regards,
Manan

Depends on the radiators - type, sizes, does it include new TRVs, lockshields, valves, changes to the plumbing. Then you've got cleaner and inhibitor for the system.

Go on one of the DIY retailers website, like Wickes or Screwfix and price up the parts.

    Thank you for the reply.

This quote (£500 + VAT) is just for the labor to replace radiators and install new TRVs on most of them.

I'll supply radiators and TRVs. I have looked at the DIY sites and parts costs me around £450.

So in total I'm looking around £1000 price mark, which I think is bit costly. I live in Greater London/Essex. Hope this helps.

If it's 2 days work. OK. One day, too high.

Well he recons he can do it in one day.

Another guy who is coming to quote late next week said probably it will take 2 days but he'll tell me time and cost when he comes next week.
  • Before you mentioned it was labour only, I was going to say it was far too cheap!

Parts wise I can recommend the Kudox radiators from Screwfix, make sure you're getting ones with an appropriate BTU. They were doing a free Drayton TRV/lockshield with new radiator deal when I upgraded mine but I don't know if they're still doing it.

The plumber/bathroom fitter who did our shower room ended up modifying the pipework for us in the end so I can't remember how much more he charged (it wasn't much but we were getting mates rates) but I did have a few other quotes. Three of the radiators were mostly straight swaps, with a small amount of pipework modification as they were replacing older imperial sized rads, one was a move to a different wall. I think I was quoted about £300 labour for this on average and this included swapping out some old TRVs for new ones on some other rads.

£500 doesn't seem too bad, but it really depends how much work is involved. If its just a case of a straight swap without pipework modifications it shouldn't take more than a day to drain (probably easier to drain the whole system if you're swapping that many rads), remove the old ones, prepare and hang the new ones, connect it all back up and re-fill but if you're having to start changing the pipes I could easily see it taking 2 days.
