Tiscali customers beware

 Just to warn any Tiscali customers not to sign up to the free line rental offer. I just signed up and now cannot leave Tiscali via the easy MAC code route but have to cancell my whole package of phone and broadband then ask BT to take me back and according to Tiscali pay over £100 to be reconnected before I can then take up a new broadband supplier. Tiscali dont tell you this when you sign up and now there is nothing I can do about it I am stuck with Tiscali:mad:

Did you not think to ask about the terms & conditions or read up on any of the terms & conditions online before doing it? :)

The BT charge will be £124.99 so save up if you're thinking of switching back.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi

In what circumstances do BT charge the £125 connection fee.

I thought it was only on new build properties or on an existing property where there is no physical telephone line and one needs to be put in. If there is a line , and the BT sockets are still in the house dont BT just have to (re) connect you in at the exchange and just charge you a tenner or so?

    Welcome clarification.

BT advisors at the moment are saying to customers that there MIGHT be a charge incurred for telephone line installations, this doesnt mean you'll pay it. The only reason they're doing this is for legal reasons so if it does come down that a line needs to have a physical reconnection by an engineer visit the customer is already pre-warned of any possible charges.

Hope this clears it up Alan :)

Surely you were aware the minimum term was a year for this service.

I was aware of it being a contract for a year but was not informed that at the end of the year you still cannot get a mac code to leave and will still have to ask BT to take the line back .
