O/S Daily Friday 30 October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and now gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, it’s half term here, so will wake him in a bit.
Now getting light, wet underfoot with laying water and looks like more to come.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg, ice cream or treats from the tins for dessert. Tonight it will be breaded chicken and chips for the menfolk with salad and HM coleslaw. I’m making a med veg tart – which I will have with salad – DH moans when I make this and don’t give him some, but then if this was the main part of the meal he’d moan “where’s the meat?” I now give them each a small slice – the rest can go in the fridge for tomorrow night’s dinner.
Yesterday I wasn’t particularly productive, although I did do several loads of washing, drying (in TD unfortunately) and ironing – there’s still some bits left and some ironing so I’ll get those bits done at some point. Drs appointment for DS2 was ok, Drs seem to not know what the problem is, are satisfied that it’s nothing serious, bloods normal, and scan was normal, so now thinking along the lines of stress/anxiety – he’s been referred to paediatrics (sp?) to see if they can come up with anything. Dr examined him again yesterday so not really any close to pinpointing the problem, starting to think it may be one of those things that we never find out what’s going on.
My sis came round yesterday, was quite surprised to see her as don’t see her that much, although we live not that far away. She lives in a village on one side of town and I live on another part of town, it’s a 10 min car journey and mum and dad live not too far from her. We haven’t had any kind of falling out I just keep myself to myself – I’ve never been close to any of my siblings although they are all quite close together and both my sisters are close. I’ve never been good enough! There’s quite a bit of historical stuff that I won’t go in to, I am polite but distant with everyone, as it was made clear many years ago where I stand and what they think of me. Fortunately it doesn’t hurt so much anymore, you just learn to live with it.
Sorry that was a bit deep for so early on a Friday morning!
This morning I’ll be shopping and finishing off the washing/drying/ironing – will do some baking/cooking, but won’t be much as still quite a bit left from last week, that needs to be eaten as it won’t be thrown away.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Dry here this morning, hope it stays that way. After the horrible rain yesterday morning it turned into a lovely afternoon.
The painters were here bright and early yesterday morning and were still here when I got back from the hospice at 6. They managed to do the hall, stairs and landing and also the upstairs bathroom so I am a happy bunny. Not really seen the bathroom in daylight but the hall looks fantastic. Now I need to sort the curtains and get some pictures, etc, up. Carpet chap coming to measure on Tuesday so not long till it's finished.
PL of salad made and kitchen cleaned last night as the painters had made many cups of tea! The rest of the house isn't too bad but could probably do with dusting at some point later.
Have a happy Friday, hope all's well. Take care. XX
Keep meaning to ask RR - any more news on Noodles?0 -
Morning nmlc & all who cross post & follow
We are off to the hospital gain this morning, through the nightmare rush hour traffic, I keep dreaming I'm driving when I'm asleep, probably because I'm losing confidence in my driving ability.
I managed some housework yesterday but not as much as I should have done, my get up and go, has got up and gone.
Monday I'm back at work so I have to juggle that along with visiting MIL etc.
The foster DGC are struggling at the moment, social services has decided it's time they did their life stories, a timeline of why they are in permanent care.
The 11 year old girl now realises that Mummy doesn't inject herself to stop her being ill but that she injects herself because she wants to and that's why she fell asleep in a bonfire, so the police were called.
She also realises that her sisters, all 8 of them are only half sisters and that's why they don't love her like they love each other.
She now thinks DD doesn't love her as she isn't 'real' family, the 10 year old boy is now reliving all the times he was cold and hungry and scared of Mummy's dealer boyfriend, he is also worried if DD really loves him to.
Well done social services, take two contented, loved, happy and secure children and turn their world upside down in the name of clarity!
OK rant over.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all. Bit dismal here just now but set to improve (or so they tell us!)
Oh HESTER you are beset with family problems ju st now. It goes like that doesn't it, everything clobbers you at once. Those poor kids I hope something gets sorted out for them. And take care of yourself too.
I am having a reprieve this morning - all 3 DGDs are still asleep in their beds! Although they were later to bed with it being school hols. The middle one has yet another rehearsal for next week's performance at the Alhambra. Poor kids, there have been so many rehearsals they could all do the show in their sleep! The trouble is the rehearsals are 10 miles away! Mr TA is taking her at 8.20 and going back for her just after lunch. I'm earmarked for playing junior Trivial Pursuit with the other two!
I got all the caravan stuff washed yesterday (curtains, bedding etc) and just my big crochet blanket to do today. I postponed that as it takes forever to dry! It'll be draped over the airer for days!
Toasties and soup have been requested for lunch so I have a bag of grated cheese defrosting, along with some ham and a loaf.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS))))) if needed/wanted. CAMELOT dare I say it, but you sound to be almost on the home straight at last! It's been a lot of hard work. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
Hester Bloodyhell, what on earth made SS think that was a good idea?! Thinking of you xx
Thank you LameWolfI know something will work for him, I just need to find it – though I thought I'd have cracked it after seven months, lol. I got home from our walk yesterday with a sore left shouder, an aching neck and a limpy leg. I went straight on Amazon to order a Halti
I measured Scampi's neck, obviously he's slap bang between two sizes! so I just ordered them both, I'm not taking any chances, lol. I can't wait for it (them!) to arrive, I really want Scampi to enjoy his walks instead of being made to stop and 'with me' every few steps. I also bought a new lead, I couldn't find any info on whether or not a chain is OK to use with the Halti. I only use one because Scampi kept chewing through leads, I don't actually like it much so I'm hoping to go back to a normal one. I used to go to people's houses and wonder why they had so many collars and leads when they only had one dog – now I know

Mr tru is off work today, we have to take a load of rubbish from the old bathroom to the tip this morning. We're using the van but it's only small, not sure the bath will fit in. We might have to leave it for now, break it up (that won't be fun, it's iron) and take it another time.
Not much else planned for today, I'm still limping and don't want to make it worse. I want to keep moving though so I'll just potter around the house. I have a DVD to watch, I might watch half, have a 20 minute intermission then watch the second half

Morning all,
Very wet here and set in for the day according to the forecast, I am off to the different site today where the rain makes it busier, but I should finish a bit earlier.
Takeaway for dinner tonight not decided which one yet will ponder it during the day. Need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep round.
Tru and Camelot, not good news re needles im afraid, the old couple are not coping with her (I knew they would struggle) and are now saying they want to go out more (despite saying that they never go out) she is pulling the old man dreadfully and they are frightened that she will pull him over, the behaviourist has said there is not much they can do (long story), so they are now looking for a younger person who does not go out but can cope with her pulling and being excitable, if not they are talking about putting her downits heart breaking and I am wracking my brains thinking of a way I can help.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you nmic for starting us off.
Pouring with rain here and I think it has been for most of the night. Himself has gone back to bed for an hour. He is sleeping slightly better, but not much.
We have to go out today for our shop, can't decide what meat to have for the weekend.
Hester, that is totally unacceptable, those poor children sound as though they were really settled with DD and I know you spend a lot of time with them as well. I wonder which bright spark suggested bringing all that up.
DGD1 is out this evening with a friend for a meal, so we are having the remains of the chicken casserole we had last night which was delicious.
Hugs to all that need one, especially Hester look after yourself.

Morning all, get well wishes to those who are poorly and strength to folk that need it.
The sky was red this morning when went out with the girls, windy and bright but is now clouding over and we are set for lots of rain.
Off to BSTE this morning, need some fresh bits food wise for the weekend and also some of the supplements I use for menopause symptoms, wasn't sure if they were working until haven't had any for last week, boy it's been warm hasn't it:rotfl:
Hopefully will be able to ride this afternoon as it's meant to clear up weather wise and then we are meeting up with a couple of ex work colleagues tonight, they were made redundant along with my DOH earlier in the year. As it turned out it was the best thing that could have happened as he is much happier working for himself and has really made the most of a bad situation. Talking of which today is my last official day at work although have not been there for weeks due to issues, can't go into what happened due to legal constraints but am so relieved all has finally been sorted. It's not the way I wanted to finish a 13.5 year career but things changed dramatically once the takeover went through and become unbearable. It will be the first time that I will be without a job in the 33 years since left school, but I have prepared well due to all the brilliant advice on this forum, have no debts, decent savings bolstered by my pay off so will take a little time to find something right for me and make sure something positive comes out of all this stress.
Phew, didn't mean all that to come out but guess it's all part of the process. Hope everyone has a good day xx0 -
redruby Oh no, I was really hoping for good news. Sorry, I wasn't sure what you meant – is it the couple who have her that are talking about putting her to sleep? Why don't they take her back to the rescue, surely they wouldn't put her to sleep, would they? I'm going to log in to FB more often, as soon as I see a Noodles story I'll share it, not sure how many people will see it but it might reach someone who can help xx
Scampi's walks are awful sometimes and a couple of times he's almost had me over. I've been really upset after a walk some days and I have occasionally wondered - what was I thinking, taking on such a nervous dog? But I CANNOT even begin to imagine giving him up at all, and there's no way he'd be put to sleep.
I'm so cross with this couple, they obviously didn't pay attention to anyone when they were told about her.Bulletproof0 -
Morning,((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. OH is back in hospital, he collapsed yesterday whilst I was at the quilting group, so I had to just leave them to it and get home. His BP was too high for him to be left at home, so off he went. I had an awful time trying to get through on the phone to find out what was going on. I have a job driving at night, so had elected to stay at home. Apart from which it would have cost a fortune in the car park.
I am off to a friends this morning, will call at the hospital on the way home and see what's going on. Need to sort out pj's etc.0 -
Morning everyone.
Once again I had a long deep sleep and woke up only ten mins ago.
I did the journey to Glasgow yesterday after all as the forecast was for the rain to move east, and I'm glad a did. Got my curtains, went for my dental appointment and bought some new towels. I bought loads of new ones when we moved but I find them too fluffy and thick so they are difficult to use. I've always liked thinner towels so got some in JL whilst I was there. :j
RR - sorry to hear about Noodles. Sometimes they are so damaged its impossible to repair them.
Tru - I think it's the rescue centre which is contemplating drastic action and not the elderly couple.
HH - how dreadful for those children and your DD.
Today I'll be curtain hanging and tidying up. I seem to have just dropped things in the house, which is so unlike me, so I need to get a bucket to collect the stuff in and then trawl round around putting things away. A parcel of perannial plants arrived whilst I was out so they need planting out.
Yesterday a whole bunch of calves went walkabout. I thought the mooing was closer than usual and looked out my door to see five calves walking past towards the farm, one heading off in a different direction and one just standing looking. They were soon rounded up and I enjoyed it immensely.
Happy Friday everyone.0
