I am fairly certain my glasses frame is metal. The arm has snapped off the frame. I have tried three times to glue the arm back onto the frame with Evostik epoxy 2 part adhesive (says suitable for metal and plastic) but its not staying stuck.

I've sanded the glue off, cleaned with Isopropranol (white spirits), glued again and it just won't stay stuck. Left them for a couple of hours or more, moved them and the arm just fell off. Not overly impressed with Evostik lol.

I can't afford new frames, new arms won't work as its snapped at a point before the hinge for the arm. Am very very short sighted, can't manage without glasses.

When you say the arm has broken off the frame, I'm presuming that it has come away on the frame side of the hinge.
This being the case there will not be enough surface area for the glue to hold and soldering or tig welding would possibly be your only option.

You could try a rubber band wound round multiple times on the arm and frame then some insulating or gaffer tape to hold it in place, I did this as an emergency stop-gap once.

If you can scrape together £25 you should be able to get a pair from Specsavers (including lenses) they won't be very stylish but......

I had my spectacles repaired by my optician... I think it cost £25.
The only problem is, they had to send them away and it took about a week. So not an option unless you have a spare pair.

If you know your prescription you might be able to get a new pair for under a tenner (depending on your requirements) from one of the discount online shops such as https://www.goggles4u.co.uk

Alternatively, snap off the arms and nose bridge and you'll end up with a snazzy pair of monocles :-)

I have found that with metal frames even the strongest glue does not work. You have to use some sort brazing or soldering which is usually beyond the average DIYer.

If a screw has fallen out, you can get kits from budget/pound shops that usually have a range of screws in them. I think you can get them on ebay as well.

Buy a cheap pair of glasses with similar frames and swap the arms over. I've done this before. I also managed to get a pair exactly the same as mine from EBay for a fiver and again, just swapped the arms over.
    :p
